Amd Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core CPU - Photoshop Test

Time: 37 seconds

PS7

X2 3800+ @ 2.85
2 x 512mb (2-2-2-5) 2T @ 238mhz
DFI NF3 ULTRA-D
10K 36Gb WD Raptor

* I need to get CS2*

I get ~42 seconds on my x2 here...

this is really nice... blows my old s754 newark out of the water.

Reran it with CS2 instead of CS and my scores dropped a full minute

Desktop in sig:
1 min 14 sec

1 minute 53 seconds (CS2)

AMD Turion ML-28 (1.6GHz) aka, my laptop

onenote, opera, msn, and some other bg apps were runing too.

Dual AthlonXP-M Barton 2400+ @ 2.4GHz (133x18)
756MB RAM (PC3200 + PC2700 @ PC2100, 2-3-3-6-9-8)

There is a gigantic listing of machines in a similar test (need to register for their forums though, and it isn't a community dedicated to computer hardware but photographic hardware). The Dual G5's smoked through it for the most part. It is at FredMiranda Forums if you're still interested.

either all those guys have super tweaked systems to the guys here or half of them are lying about their timings

36 seconds with my rig at stock cpu, ram at stock timings, 2 gb corsair cas2, 1T.
Using photoshop cs2. normal tasks in taskbar.

2GB of OCZ Platinum memory at 2-3-2-5 1T timings

Ran the test four times:

35-36 seconds
same set up, same times lol!!

wow !!!

this cpu is seriously fast :)

the dual 2.7 - 1.8 powermacs managed on average between 40 - 55 seconds.

keep the test results coming !!!

here a powermac dual 2.3 (two single cores) with 4.5 gig ram, maxtor 250/7500.
test: 43 sec.on PS CS2-(3 test).

by the way, you are here compairing dual coresX2 to dual sinle core
processor. does this make sense? I also would like to suggest that we clear the competition terms. Apple makes no processor, so there is AMD, INTEL and IBM in the race, right ?!
And since Apple now talks to INTEL and IBM therefor brought quickly up some dual cores for the Mac, i am sure that we all have fun ahead of us ;-).
and beside of this "important" matters, i am happy that as a pro PS user i dont need to blur my pictures all the time at 100% :))
enjoy life !

AMD athlon xp2600
Geil Value 2gig ddr 400
Radeon X850 XT P.E
ASUS A7N8X-E deluxe

Quite good for the old timer.... But i got my X2 4400 coming this week so I will post up the score from that.

Stock 3500+ (2.2ghz)
Stock 2 gb Corsair 3200
Stock 6800 ultra

In Photoshop CS on windows Xp Home got me 1 min 33 secs

Is that good?

Maybe for a single core....dual cores kick mongo booty in CS2, it's multithreaded

Got two slightly different results:

30.3 seconds using built in photoshop timing function
29.6 seconds using stopwatch.

Funny thing is that I did the test twice and used the timing and stopwatch at the same time to compare. The first time I run the test, I get the same 29.6 (or very close) with the stopwatch but get crazy numbers like 38 or 36 seconds with the timing. If I re-do the test, then the stopwatch and timing are very close with the stopwatch having an edge. I think CS2 has some slight problem with timing so who ever has run the test with the timing feature, try again with a stopwatch and compare....

dual core isn't any faster than dual single. It simply, is SMP on a single chip. So comparing a dual core X2, or Pentium D to my machine or a dual processor Macintosh for this test is totally valid. Compare my dual Opteron rig to your dual Mac if that makes you feel better. My 254's are 2.8GHz and single core.

I've got 40 sec(+/- 1 sec due to human error using a stopwatch). My system is in my sig.

PS. This is my first post and I would like to say that this looks like a great forum and I'm looking forward to be part of it. :)

1min 45sec in PS 7.0

P4 3.0c @ stock
1GB DDR400 Corsair XMS 2-3-3-6
Shuttle system, I foget the model # atm..

1 min 48 secs on Amd 64 3000+ Venice OC'ed to 2.25ghz...Ram is @ 250mhz it's patrioat 2x512mb...

not that you care.. but a 2.8 P4 does it in 1m26s Done on my laptop in sig.

Or someone with a super overclockable dual xeon box :)

I got my dual xeon 3Ghz down to 26.4 when running at 222Mhz FSB (worked out to 3.33Ghz). Maybe someone can take a dual 3.4Ghz xeon system and try and get 3.8 or 4Ghz out of it?? Not sure if its possible but I shaved 3.2 seconds going from 3Ghz to 3.33.

Please list your cpu details: X2 4600+
amount of ram: 1GB PC3200 dual channel -kingmax
and the time it took for the test: 35 seconds first try

32secs with rig in sig @ 2.45, mem at 245. Been up and running a few days and a bunch of apps working.

for comparison purposes:
1:16 seconds (PS Timer is 1:14, which is OFF BTW). PS timer=sux.

Dual MP2800 on AMD 760 MPX Chipset w/1GB PC2700 RAM.

just for reference..

xp-m 2200+ @ 2.4 ghz..
2 x 512 bh-5 2-3-3-11 @ 200 (yeah.. shuttle won't let me up my vdimm)
nforce 2 chipset
photoshop 7
1:57

this was with a lot of shit runnign though.. which i realized too late.. bearshare, winamp 2.95, filezilla, and about 4 firefox windows. and f@h.. but that would have been kicked down real quick.. + symantec corporate of course..
oh, on server 2003.. if that matters..

i am going to tweak tomorrow just to shave a worthwhile number of seconds off.. haha.. do you have any kind of table yet? you need to do best times for 7, cs, cs2 etc.. and then just go down the list.. there are too many variables though.. memory, hdd speed, os, chipset, hdd speed.. and other shit i can't think of right now..

52 seconds w/tyan k8e motherboard/opteron 165 and stocktimings 1.5 gb of ram

Agreed, Hyperthreading really helps the Xeon and P4 systems in this test, for example my system (P4 3.2 GHZ) does this in 1:20 with hyperthreading, but with it turned off it takes a very slow 1:50!!!!!

Will do this on my dual 3.2 Gallatin tonight
edit: If I every get out of work

edit2:

CS2, Dual 3.2/1MB/533, Supermicro X5DA8, 1.5GB PC2100 Reg. ECC == 34 Seconds :D
Not bad for a shared-bus duallie with no memory bandwidth :p

Around 30 seconds amd 64 x2 3800 oc'ed 2.6 ghz 2 gigs ram and 7800gt
