Hey Guys. Helping out a friend upgrading an older AM2+ system upgrade.

He has dropped in a 95watt x6 cpu that works with the latest bios update and 4x4gig cp6400 dimms.

This is the board:

This is the ram :

We have got the board stable but he was having issues populating all 4 dimms without crashes. I managed to help stabilize the board by suggesting he lower the memory multiplier down to 667 speeds down from the 800 that these sticks are. That worked.

Before dropping the memory multiplier, i suggested relaxing memory timings but alas, this board wont allow you to adjust memory timings. I realize that this is an entry level older board and we are squeezing all of the power we can out of it but i figured that id ask here to see if anyone had any input. Thanks in advance.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the DDR2 memory controller isn't particularly strong. Populating 4 DIMMS usually led to reduced speeds in order to be stable on many of the AMD chips of the time.

Great suggestions, guys. I passed them along to my friend and he might try them. There's probably marginal performance difference between 667 with tighter timings that the board is forcing and 800 at stock timings.

Some gigabyte motherboards with a BIOS instead of UEFI have the "advanced" options hidden by default. You can unhide the advanced options by pressing either Alt or Ctrl + F1
