AMD admits there are problems with USB devices on 500-series motherboards

Damn! My 570 gives me the same issues. Sometimes I have to reboot. It is a rare issue but it does happen. Most obvious if you have several devices plugged in.

I'm not sure if I've seen this yet. only 2 usb devices though.

Gigabyte supposedly addressed a USB issue with the recent bios update (B550i). Seems to work for me. I haven't had any major USB issues on any 5XX board, so hard to say.

I tend not to experience these issues during reviews. Although, I do have a specific mouse that's prone to not being recognized, but it's a pre-production engineering sample sent out to reviewers. (The mouse that is.) As a result, I never paid it any attention. That being said, I don't think it's ever done that on Intel chipset based motherboards, only X570 and B550's.

On the Intel side, I've never had USB issues unless it was with a third party controller.

Yep, have had USB problems off and on since I purchased my X570 board.

On my MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE, I would occasionally have my wireless headset disconnect and reconnect for seemingly no reason. Aside from that, I've been fortunate in that I never had any other issues with it or its' USB ports.

In my case my wired keyboard disconnects and reconnects in quick succession at random times, a few times an hour.
If I was typing, it would disconnect, reconnect, and the last key that was pressed would repeat until I would press another key.
If I was playing a video game and moving in a direction when the disconnect/reconnect happened, my character would continue moving in the same direction until I press another key

This happens even in BIOS, so it's not an OS issue.
And keyboard works fine on other computers I plug it into

Others have issues with this happening to all their devices, including mice, USB flash drives and external hard drives.

This could end up bricking anything you're trying to do a wired firmware upgrade on, for example. Or corruption of data on flash drives

I have a X570 Taichi, 5900x, and Radeon 6800. PCIe 4.0 enabled, overclocked ram etc. No USB issues noticed

I had it on the MSI B550 Mortar .. seem to be the Razor keyboard as I replaced it with a Logitech 740 and the issue is totally gone as It kept disconnecting and reconnecting my mouse .. I have the latest bios and it did not help the issue .

I don't have disconnect issues with my X570, but I do have an issue with my Razer Orb Weaver Chroma controller not loading up settings when I plug it back in.
The software will see that it is plugged in but doesn't do anything to the controller, changing profiles, making a new profile, etc....
Shutting down the software and starting it up has no affect, removing it from Device manager and rescanning has no affect.
I have to reboot the PC for the settings to load in the controller.
This started happening after I got my new RTX 3080 FTW3 and installed the latest Nvidia drivers. Going back to the older drivers as well as the Studio drivers didn't change anything either.
Old GPU was my 1080ti FTW3 and I'd plug and unplug the controller multiple times a day since I only used it when playing games.

Think it could be because the new card is PCIe Gen 4?

I have a b550 master. The usb 2 ports quit and i have to reboot to get them to work again. The usb 3 ports never do that.

Hmm, Interesting. I think I'll keep using my 370. I've got a 570 waiting but I think I'll just wait on alder lake or zen 4/am5.

This happened randomly all the time on my Oculus setup (x570 Aorus Elite). Finally put in a powered usb 3.0 card to avoid it - which has solved the problem so far.

yes, because we prefer security vulnerabilities on ALL Intel chips rather than some USB issues on some motherboards
Seems to be every motherboard, and yes, I'll take security vulnerabilities over my fucking mouse cutting out in the middle of a game.

Yeah "every motherboard"... tard.gif

I guess the tons of us who have already reported having ZERO issues over the course of years just got lucky... maybe I should hit the Casino.

Me too my luck must be very good as I've had zero usb issues since replacing my faulty trackball mouse with a new one exactly the same model. I wonder how many of these issues are caused by ram timings being squeezed down to bare minimum and forcing their systems to run outside of specified parameters.

Running at 100% stock, had the issue with several USB devices. Bought a powered USB card to solve it - happens within 10 minutes on my setup (oculus is the worst, but other things do it too).

It happens when you have PCIE 4.0 enabled on your GPU smart guy.

Yeah, it happens for everyone. Have fun when you upgrade your GPU.

That makes sense. It would be absurd of an all AMD rig had issues. I imagine the Nvidia cards get less testing due to supply currently

Or could be something different they're doing on the bus too - PCIE4 graphics cards are still pretty new, and so far that seems to be a 100% correlation - it's got to be a PCIE4 card (setting PCIE3 on the bus or slot fixes the issue). Other details - may be the ASMedia USB controller too, which shows WEIRD performance numbers and latency numbers when the issue is encountered.

Yikes. Shit like this is why people buy Intel.
Your colors are showing =P.

Honestly though. I've heard usb disconnect sounds a few times on my x570, ran usb log to see what was disconnecting. unplugged everything in and out to see which device came up with the same ID, didn't match. So was a bit confused. Besides that factor. All my devices are working fine, even with the disconnect sound (which has happened around 8 times or so in the past couple of weeks), nothing actually disconnected. System is purring along, 5950x, asus x570 pro, and RTX 3090 FE.

I'll take this problem over my X79 and X99 Intel builds any day. Literally my corsair keyboard and logitech mouse would stop working on those platforms. Would have to unplug and replug multiple times, even restart my PC. Sometimes wouldn't recognize my keyboard during bios boot, so couldn't get into the bios at all, had to plug in another keyboard. Was far worse on intel for me than AMD.

My mouse would occasionally screw up. I thought it was a button so I replaced the mouse... Then I still had the problem, just less, or so I thought.

Haven't had any issues with my ASUS B550 yet. Think I've had more issues with my work Intel laptop than anything else oddly, IT bloatware maybe?

You mean where, worst case, I would have to set that slot to use PCIe 3.0 instead of 4.0? Sounds difficult...

Why are people patting themselves on the back for using a crusty old x370 motherboard or Intel motherboard that can only do PCIe 3.0? I'm pretty sure that an x570 motherboard that is set to use PCIe 3.0 for the GPU slot would still be better than an older x370/x470 chipset. Even if your GPU is stuck using PCIe 3.0, you still have a PCIe 4.0 link between the CPU and the PCH which is great. You still have the option for a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD which is great. My main beef is that this issue is turning into an AMD bashing bandwagon, where in most cases the people complaining aren't even using the hardware in question. Did you also point out to these people quoted below that we are dealing with a very specific PCIe 4.0 issue that happens to have an easy workaround, and not a "every AMD motherboard sucks now!" issue?

The sad thing is that this has been known about on the 400 series chipset in 2019. This isn't a new thing, they just don't seem to care.
Noticed that my X470 / 3700X system recently has very bad USB write speeds
I "upgraded" from an entry-level x370 to an entry-level 570x last week. In addition to this potential USB issue, I've found nothing but detractions from the 4 year-old x370 I was using previously. Slightly lower overclocking headroom (on my 3600), slightly less stable memory timings, and worse, multiple cost-cut features. All for 30% more in price.

But but the chipset can is obnoxious!

3700x & ASRock x570 Steel Legend & 2 x 16GB 3200 & RX 580 4GB .. no USB issues
5600x & ASRock x570 Taichi & 2 x 16GB 3200@3600 w/fclk 1:1 & RX 5700xt .. no USB issues. USB Devices: Headphones,RGB keyboard, RGB mouse, RGB mouse pad/matt, HDD dock, multiple thumb drives at various times

I did have one issue with a knock-off Rosewill RGB mouse that would reinitialize at random times after owning for about a year.. I replaced with a Cougar something RGB mouse and haven't had an issue since.

Both running latest BIOS's to date (AMD AGESA ComboAM4v2 1.2.0.0)
