AMD 2nd Gen Ryzen 2 2700X Zen+ CPU Review @ [H]

i have a x370 motherboard so i can't benefit from precsion 2 boost so i might as well get a 2700

Kyle, would you do a review of the Wraith Prism?

I would like to see how to does compare to aftermarket coolers such as the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and the Noctua NH-D15S.
I will send it to rgMekanic when I am done with it. Then he can give us some apples to apples cooling coverage.

I am getting it on today to run it in stock clock test to see where it puts us at compared to XSPC water.

300 series mobos support Precision Boost 2 with a BIOS/AGESA update. The new feature in 400 series mobos is Precision Boost 2 Enhanced Overdrive

I wish I had the need to replace my 2500k but it just won't die. If I were buying today I would get a 2700x leave it at stock and let PB2 do its thing. 16GB of the fastest memory it supports and a nice M2 SSD and call it done :)

i thought XFR 2 only worked on x370 but precision boost 2 was a x470 feature ? but i guess iam wrong? I still rather run a TDP 65watt chip in my itx build than a 105watt TDP chip and save 30 or 40 dollars but gain 2 core 4 threads

i would be happy with stock 2700 boosting to like 4ghz or 4.1 on all cores? will the chip do that?

PB2 Overdrive (where you can adust up the amperage draw) is x370/470 only. The StoreMi is 470 only. PBR2 and XFR2 work on B350 and up.

"little more than a popcorn fart"

I hope that's not copyrighted, I think I might try to work that into my daily conversations next week

i just switched my order on Amazon from 2700 to 2700x based on the info given

This is how you know AMD isn't Intel. Not only do you not have to throw out your old board, but you also don't need the new board to take advantage of the compatible CPU feature sets. It's a good time to be an AMD buyer that's for sure.

I am just about to start running tests with the stock cooler on the ASUS Crosshairs board and a new UEFI has shown up. "lots of updates including latest AMD SMU patch code and more memory profiles." Ah, I get to retest all those over again on water....

I wonder how current ITX motherboards would handle the 2600X and 2700X. I already know their VRM heatsinks would struggle, but I wonder what level of direct airflow would be needed to save them from overheating. As it is, true ITX form factors have limited cooling options. Might make for an interesting article!

Oddly
AnAndTech used 2666Mhz RAM (For AMD and Intel) along with ASUS 0508 BIOS (on X470), and has got some crazy results; shows the 2700X, 2700, 2600X and 2600 just stomping 8700k when using a 1080

Eg.
ROTR 116fps 2700x vs 103 for 8700K @ 1080

Rocket League 359fps vs 279fps @ 1080

Very curious if [H] can investigate this now when they go full review.

A few questions:

- so do all the features work on x370 same same x470? If so, what's the difference between the boards?
- What do we miss B350? Precesion boost overdrive what is that? Ajust amps? Any real world need for that?
- 2700X is 105w 2700 is 65w, is power draw from the wall less with 2700, assuming both are running exact same clock speeds? (Seems obvious but what the hell do I know)
- Which B350 has solid VRMs? :)

Let me be clear here, and a lot of you are relying on old leaked slides...

Precision Boost 2 Overdrive is NOT a part of the Ryzen 2 platform at this time. It is a POSSIBLE future feature.

XFR2 Enhanced is NOT a part of the Ryzen 2 platform at this point. It looks as though that ASUS may be using the naming XFR2 Enhanced on its boards, but this does not seem to be correct.

Sometimes faster ram mhz wise is not as real world useful as latency. I'm betting their 2666 mhz ram is much lower latency?

CAS14 is as low as DDR4 goes, and 3200MHz (actually 1600MHz x 2 for DDR) is as high as it goes (right now) at CAS14. Thus, 2666MHz is 'slower'.

On the other hand, 3200C14 is pretty expensive...

Well I guess I'm not replacing my taichi. Thanks for confirming this info kyle.

i bought some G skill x-flare 3200 CL 14 ram works fine in my ryzen 5 pc the ram cost $250 on newegg

Finally got the video to load, and I agree on the music lol. Not going to lie, it might be a stock fan, but that's honestly some of the coolest looking LED use that I've seen.

Aside from cooling, the Wraith Prism was probably designed to persuade anyone buying the Ryzen 7 2700 to buy the Ryzen 7 2700X instead.

At least they are using full graphs now and not just the tops to show a larger delta.

This perfectly engineered piece of silicon that is slaughtering Intel's best showed up today. :)

The [H] review made me feel good about the Intel -> AMD switch!

I had an O/C Ryzen 1600 on a Gigabyte AB350M D3H mobo.
Stuck the 2700X straight in at stock speeds. It appears that Precision Boost 2 is working on the B350 chipsets as well. All 8 cores showing in RyzenMaster at over 4.1Ghz (bounces around a little). And this is at STOCK....no O/C. Regularly get the "starred" cores running at 4.35Ghz. CPUz bench shows all cores multi-core test at 3.98 for 2 cores and 4.017 for the other 6 under full load....multi score 4944.2...single score 491.5.
Anyway long story short....it appears the the PB2 works on Gigabyte mobos with B350 chipsets with the latest bios updates.
