I cannot justify the cost, as I do not "need" 2 day shipping. I also do not watch any prime videos. If they would have done a subscription just for the shipping and taken away the movies I would have been allover it.

Don't care. Amazon hasn't raised prices in 9 years. Prime pays for itself every Christmas simply in shipping costs. Well worth the extra money no matter what.

Also, they will soon be charging sales tax here in Florida. So another reason to move on I guess.

It's not just 2 day free shipping, Prime pays for itself pretty quickly with the 20% off you get for subscribe and save.

I'm torn because there video selection is very similar to Netflix and they have been doing a lot of post office hand off and prime items have become considerably higher priced than non prime eligible. I have till November to decide.

It is still worth it for me. I need the two day shipping since I live way out in the middle of a rural area so shipping can be a pain with out it. I also use Amazon video just as much, if not more than Netflix. I still feel it is a good deal to get both cheap shipping and the ability to watch the video.

Do people have no concept of competition ... if Amazon and their vendors can raise prices and still be competitive that should be their choice ... if they aren't competitive after a price increase then go buy it somewhere else ... Prime is a voluntary service and there are lots of other internet vendors if you think Amazon is too expensive ... whatever happened to personal choice and responsibility and why must every problem or disagreement result in a bogus lawsuit

On a more technical note, it has been well known that Amazon cookies and pricing algorithms change pricing all the time (sometimes multiple times per day) ... also, new users sometimes got different pricing than existing and established users ... it would be interesting to see if it isn't Prime that is driving these pricing shifts but the cookies and pricing software

the 20% off is with the subscribe and save, which doesn't require prime...if I remember right.

Still more than worth it for me. I'm probably one of the people that are causing the price to rise. I use the hell out of my prime membership. It paid for itself in a couple of months.

They just started charging sales tax here in North Carolina. I don't watch the TV shows or rent Kindle books. Guess it's time for me to actually see what's in the stores around here again.

They really should have kept Prime the same price and added the $20 for those who use the streaming!
I think I've watched 1 movie in the last 2 years.

As already mentioned, mileage may vary.

I for one typically don't ever need anything in a pinch and thus 2 day free shipping is just a nice little an uncessary perk. I've also yet to really use the streaming service due to the horrible browsing. Not to mention, I seem to notice some of the stuff that I consider buying off amazon just to support amazon have been far cheaper at Walmart. The only reason I have prime is because they offered me a free few months of the student prime service. When it was time to renew it was at the student price. If they give me the option to renew at the student price, even if its a little higher, I may renew. If not, I see no real worthwhile benefit to me with how I use it. I can wait a few extra days for the things I want.

Amazon is one of the few companies that seems to fight for the best value for the customer. They have Nordstorm esque customer service with Wal-Mart prices, but with items you actually want. Prime has been great for my wife and we can share a single subscription. She likes the free ebooks and I like the streaming. 2 Day shipping is awesome during the holidays. I find it hard to find anything to complain about with the marginal price increase.

My only complaint is that I wish I could stream to my XBMC HTPC's. Since you can't do that anymore I have to use my blu-ray player, not the end of the world, but not ideal.

Can anyone help me out with this.

I have been a prime member for a couple months now but every time I look up a product the ones that are "Prime Eligible" cost more. It's as if they bake the cost of 2 day shipping into the product.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I just seeing a problem where none exist?

Send a complaint to their CSRs...they might refund you the difference. At the very least it's worth a try :)

It is still worth it for me. The shipping savings alone makes it well worth the 99$. Amazon is still a great company to do business with. I wish I could find more stuff to buy from them.

I have until December to decide to renew, so I have plenty of time to think about it. Amazon is finally collecting sales tax in Tennessee (as they should), and my need to order Amazon products is less. I do stream a lot, but I have been hugely disappointed in anime streaming (the formatting is almost always messed up), and it is rare I find something on Amazon Prime that I can't get on Netflix.

From a monthly standpoint, it is a minor increase (less than $2 a month), but I just don't know if it is still worth it for my family.

To me this is no big deal. I almost exclusively purchase Prime items unless they are ridiculously overpriced. I have both NetFlix and Amazon for streaming. Yes a lot of the stuff is the same, but you can’t buy anything on NetFlix. Being a cord cutter, it is nice to be able to keep up with some of the series that I watch.

Subscribe and Save has nothing to do with Prime. They're separate programs. And they don't do that 2 day shipping, either. I have had items take a week to arrive with sub & save. Interesting, though, because my sub & save promotion is only 15%, for 5 items. And I am a Prime member. I've been using Sub & Save since it started, though, and currently have only 2 items ordered, but I'm getting 15% for each of them, instead of 5%, so that may have something to do with it. The program started out at 15%, and it stayed that way for me when the program changed. Just can't find anything else I need on a regular schedule like that.

Anything that is prime shipping is already free shipping, you just get it faster.

This increase will cause me to think a bit about what I do.

I agree with most, we rarely use the Prime movie features.
I do rent a lot of movies from Amazon however, but that's not relevant here.

We order a lot of items, but do I "need" 2 day shipping? Free, ok, good. Fast, not as important.

I'm going to reevaluate my account, I also have until December.:p

I currently have Amazon Prime and have ordered 7 things from amazon in the past few months, only 2 of them have actually come in 2 days. It really pisses me off that when I order something from amazon, they have a warehouse a hundred miles from me, and when they ship my item, they used the cheapest fricking shipping option possible (UPS Surepost) and my stuff never comes in 2 days.... UPS delivers to my local post office the next day, then my post office delivers it whenever they feel like it. That and now that I have to pay 9.25% sales tax in TN, I wont be renewing.

So just got off the phone with Amazon and the price increase doesn't actually take effect until next month. On a completely related and embarrassing note, wife finally forwarded me the email and the date clearly states March 2nd 2015.

If they get a decent music streaming service off the ground and include it in the price as well I feel its worth it. I don't really stream movies much being their software sucks in comparison to netflix but I'd be willing to do music while at the gym and the shipping savings is enough with that.

Two day shipping does become a little addictive when it's free though. I cringe when having to buy from other sites and not being able to use two day shipping.

$99 a year = $8.25 a month

Average cost for 2-day shipping = $20+

Average cost for regular shipping = $5 to $12

Like another person said, my Prime Membership more than pays for itself during Christmas, where I was paying more than $99 to send all my presents in packages out via snail-mail with USPS, I now usually spend nothing for 2-day...

Well worth it to me, and will happily renew next January at the new rate, but will reconsider next time the price rises.
