Got a good buy on a 4790S to go with an MSI Z97 gaming 7 board. This rig is going to replace my AMD 8350 rig. I am hoping I made the right jump.
I will still be using my old 290X and 16 gig ram.
    Any opinions ???

Were pretty close to Ryzen launching. Might want to wait a bit more and see how it performs and how prices shake out. Likely to see price adjustments on Intel as well if Ryzen performs well.

Well............already bought the rig. Just hoping it will be a bit better than my 8350.

You will get differing replies here, bro. AMD will tell you its as good and Intel will tell you it is way better because of the generational gap. I have seen them comparable and I have seen the 4790 faster. I don't believe you will find any instances where the 8350 is faster, however.

It should be faster in most things. Congrats on the upgrade and the savings!

I am banking on the generational advantage. Wish I could have afforded a K, but maybe when I dump the AMD rig, maybe I can move the 4790s and can cut a deal on a faster 1150 CPU.

Why the S model? Are you TDP limited?

I got a good buy with limited funds. Wanted a K but couldn't pay.

Yes it is an upgrade. Especially because it will up your minimum fps in most games.

Also since you don't have the "k" version you won't have to deal with all their egotistical attitudes of their club. Now you can use your PC and actually get something done instead of see how fast you can compute 2+4.

Still an upgrade from 8350, that rig should last you a couple more years.

Funny because the 4790K was bought by people like me precisely for 4GHz+ stock clocks that make OCing pretty much pointless.

I will just set it to run on Turbo at all times. I can repurpose my H100i as overkill for this chip.
