Hi- i have had a verisign cert for my site,a nd it is expiring soon. All I care about is my connection being encrypted, does anyone here have a recommendation of a cheaper alternative to Verisign? Thank you.

Well, if you need an authorized one, I have used RapidSSL and SSL certs from a few registrars (like godaddy).

Self-signed certs are fine as long as you don't have too many users.

you can use a self signed cert, but it will pop up a warning stating the cert wasnt issued by an acredited SSL provider, it still provides the same encryption, but if you have people submitting data online thats gonna be a big turn off for them.

RapidSSL is inexpensive and provides the same 128 bit encyption, check what your host can provide, my host offers it for $30 a year

Like the others have said. Giving your users piece of mind keeps them coming back.
