Alternate method to verify if Windows XP Firewall is active

I'm trying to verify if Windows firewall is active or not on my work machine. It is Windows XP Pro. The screen is grayed out and I do not have access to it. In the grayed out area the "On" radio button is selected, but since it is grayed out I don't know if I can trust that. Is there an alternate method to verify this?
