all folders are read only

someone please help all folders are read only and when i uncheck it, it just stays read only help its really annoying

The root folder remains read-only? For sub-folders and files, you have to check the options to apply the setting to them.

i jus noticed i cant delete folders, any root or sub directories im running win XP home no SP1 or 2

Do what GJS said to do and make sure you're telling it to apply to all subfolders.

Do you know how it wound up like that? My guess is possible virus infection.

i do apply to all sub folder...everything stays read only no matter what i do..and no virus its a fresh format

A fresh format isn't always invulnerable. But I dunno what it is, unless for some reason the folders and files are being used by another program.

wht programs uses every damn folder? and fresh format...its on its own internal network so no zombies...format wiped everything out..its a legit winxp disc

Try it in Safe Mode.

I meant try changing the file attributes to remove the read only flag.
