Any clue as to why my laptop will freeze after about 1-3 minutes from resuming ?
Did you force the installation of the Windows 10 April Creators Update (1803)? If you did that's your problem. You have to either fall back to the previous version of Windows 10 or downgrade your Nvidia drivers to whatever Dell has on their website.
thank you i will look into this later
how do i check if i have that particular update installed
start-run-winver will tell you. also make sure everything is up to date, drivers, bios etc make sure theres no overclocking going on too, not sure if those can...
Yep it says 1803
have you ever tried installing the nvidia drivers instead of the dell ones? you might be able to install them normally or via device manager.
dell does have a newer nvidia driver from may. oh what gpu btw?! I assumed nv but the had rx570's too.
edit: I also assumed the 17" r4, oops. but there is a bios update for it too, spectre stuff I think...
i have the 17.3" with 1070
k theres a new bios from may 23 and nv drivers from may 2. id install both. I think this is it:http://www.dell.com/support/home/ca/en/cadhs1/product-support/product/alienware-17-laptop/drivers
id also grab the HID and chipset drivers.
thank you i will look into all suggestions soon and report back with results
Ok i used the newest video drivers for nvidia from the dell page for my machine and seemed to get a nice performance bump but after sleep it still locks up. It literally froze 3 seconds after clicking on overwatch
What about the Intel video drivers for onboard graphics?
yeah update those too. update anything that's is from may on.
What does overwatch have to do with it? Is the computer going to sleep with the game running?
I think that its not firing up the gpu correctly when he starts overwatch after the system has been to sleep.
using the drivers from nvidia website fixed the issue (not the dell listed drivers)
