destination host unreachable
destination host unreachable

packets sent = 4 recieved = 0 lost=4 100% loss

also, now i also cant get microsoft outlook to send or recieve mail.

i am behind a proxy server and 3 com router and hardware firewall...

what should i do....
i have a mirror coppy of the setup i use on my Windows 2000 laptop, on my xp box, but the xp box wont work with aim and email....
interesting
anny ideas how to fix it?

woaaa
you sir are briliant!
if that works, you are my new hero
i cant believe i didnt think of that...
use a program that can do msn aim yahoo etc etc...

but what about email?
:D
one down 1 to go

You say your laptop works? This sounds like you are on someone else's network who is actively blocking these things.

it is a network at my work, a small family business, and no the port is not blocked, because we got 2 new pc's both with XP, all other computers are running W2K
my father manages the computers and the network here, but i wanted to solve this problem for him so he doesnt have to deal with it...
he has looked into it and thinks he needs a special kind of router to solve the problem.

i dont think so, because why doesnt every other XP user need that firewall then?

cliff notes:
1.) old computers with W2K works for aim and email
2.) new XP computers cant get aim or email, but can surf the web
3.) computers on a network, with a prozy serer, router, and hardware firewall.

are you using analogx's proxy server?? If so that is the problem... I have NEVER EVER got it to work with email....

Depends on the router ( or proxy ) involved.

Some will have authentication methods, built on the MAC or IP address sometimes. So some computers are allow unmolested access, while ones that the router ( or proxy ) doesn't recognize are allowed limited access.

That's how I run it where I work.

apparently i need to get a router that supports GRE protocal

thats what my father thinks it is.
is there a way i can do this without spending $ on annother router...?
