Ok, I decided to install the Asus Chipset drivers but, it also installed an older version of the video driver, which was my fault because I was not paying attention. However, I was not able to use a system restore point and therefore, I used DDU and reinstalled the 18.3.4 drivers. (AMD)

Now, the People App will not open, it just tries to open and crashes. Removed, reinstalled, reset the app, tried a new user account, nothing helped. (Logged out of the MS account and logged back in but, that did not help either.) Any help would be appreciated and yes, I broke it, now I want to fix it. :D

I have to say, I've never once used the people app.

How on earth do drivers stop an app from opening?

Not hard to do when you install a driver that is over 6 months older than the one you have installed. That plus a failed system restore did not help.

I'm still not understanding what a video card driver has to do with the people app ? I am not sure one has anything to do with the other.

A few ideas... and keep in mind I don't run the windows store and don't use windows if I don't have to myself.

    Try resetting the store cache with;
    WSReset.exe

Its been awhile but I think this would be the way to scan your install these days ?
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Outside of that you could try creating a new user... and seeing if you can install the app as that user. If that is the case perhaps you could copy all your old user data to the new account or something.

I think the failed system restore is most likely the culprit here. You can't just try another restore point?

Not really, unfortunately, since the mouse and keyboard got all messed up. (Chipset drivers were a part of that.) I ended up having to force reboot the computer a couple of times but, it was my fault.

It is not that hard to understand when the old driver was installed over the newer one and messed things up. :( My own fault though, I was not paying attention and was not careful enough. Thanks for those ideas but, I already had applied them, they are good solutions though for most things.

Sorry to hear that. I think I've been able to fix all the store issues with that list, I've had 5 or so really odd things happen with store apps over the years. The People app I've noticed will engage my nVidia overlay, not sure why, I think the animation on the side when opening is a DX amination? No other apps causing issues?

Well, it is all good now. :) I installed 1803 over the top and everything worked again. Also finished the rest of the updates as well. This is good because I just redid everything from scratch about two weeks ago just to get the Cortana texting ability working again. It stopped working when I did the 1709 update last year and never could find a solution. (I could type text, select the app but, it would not open.) Texting from the computer through my phone is much easier and more convenient.

Still the driver shouldn't have caused you issues with an app... I guess it was a roll back windows update type issue. Glad you fixed it. Sucks that MS seems to break so much stuff with their updates.

Updating hundreds of millions of machines is always going to have a certain number of issues. Between my personal experience and the rollout of 10 at work, it's hard for me to see 10 as bad some on the internet would lead others to believe. Not perfect, but not a complete mess either. I have over 1000 programs installed on my sig rig and a single program I've tried has had an issue with 1803, including the People app which I do use. Honestly, I just don't even know that the alternatives are because everything is going to have some issue. Windows 7 is getting old and isn't particularly friendly with 4k and high DPI screens. Got Ubuntu up and running on my Surface Pro 3, basically everything worked out of the box. I've been reading up on Linux scaling and that's a messy subject as well.

At the end of the day, pick your poison because unless you're doing really basic stuff with basic hardware, their ain't no magic desktop OS that has all the answers.

You really cannot compare a rollout in an isolated, extensively firewalled and controlled corporate network to an upgrade on a virus infected machine bogged down by ineffective antivirus packages, usually more than one package making it even more ineffective, on a average users computer.

Windows 10 upgrade issues are fairly well reported all over the internet with good reason, people aren't making this stuff up.

Microsoft did not break a thing, this is not that thread, these are not the droids you are looking for, move along, move along..... :) I broke it, simple as that. (Yes, the other thing was an update issue, the text thing but, things happen, I just wish I could have found out why because, clean installs never caused that issue.)

Never said people were making it up. But when you're talking about hundreds of millions of machines and countless configurations of course there will be issues.

You want to bitch about this bullshit, you can make your own thread, thanks anyways. This thread is now locked so someone else might be able to find the help they need without the whining.
