I have Xfinity’s newest all one Wifi gateway, which is modem and router in one unit, but it seems to get bogged down by all of my devices.

Is it worth upgrading to a separate wifi router with a better processor?

Most likely yes and good 3rd party router will likely perform far better over all with multiple devices. Question is, how many devices do you have and what seems to "bog down" ? Is it performance, signal strenght?

Could it just be the location of the ISP modem/router is not optimal?

Signal strength is good everywhere but the browsing is laggy compared to 4g on phones. Speeds are good but applications are slow to respond, especially when someone is streaming.

You could try a separate router and set it up as an access point and have them connect to it instead. If the xfinity gateway is having issues, this will solve it. And then you can get your own modem to completely move away from their equipment.

Otherwise, if this doesn't solve the issue, then it's something else--more than likely just clogged airwaves.

Have you tried swapping the unit out as possibly defective? Just take it down to the local Comcast store and get another to try.
