had a large Win 10 update a few weeks ago and another large one just the other day and when I run ME2 the GPU core speed is 726 MHz in-game with 45 fps or lower. I tried EVGA Precision XOC and turned on Turbo (the K button) but in-game it's still 726 MHz. Rise of the Tomb Raider works fine (core @ 1866 MHz and pinned at 60 fps @ 1080p)

why the change in GPU operation on some games? All games were running fine until the Win updates were done

Drivers, Drivers, Drivers, make sure Win did not install some BS drivers over the ones you were using..(it does it to my audio all the dam time for some reason)

Make sure High Performance is selected in power options. I know of a few games that run terribly with any other stock power profile.

You shouldnt need to do this though, my PC uses a lot more power at idle like this.
Sure it can be turned on/off but it turns gaming into a hassle.
MS QA is crap.

thanks for the input ...

I have Win power options on Balanced, no change when set to High Performance and nvidia Control Panel set to Max Performance (I usually set it to Adaptive). Drivers were re-installed last night, tried a few earlier nvidia drivers versions (went back 3-4 versions) ... problem is still there. Rise of the TR GPU @ 1866 @ pinned 60 fps is still there and working as it has been - beginning to think it's either the OS update or an EA thing going on. Did a game file repair then re-downloaded ME2 and no change.

Whenever I have a gaming issue, it ALWAYS involves an EA game

Could be something to do with a roll back of Direct X. You might try pulling the latest distro of that and dropping it on top of windows.

Who knows, I've seen that happen before tho. It's a Dx9 game. They didn't move to Dx10 until ME3 IIRC.

That would be because DirectX 9 is a little different. It's built-in, but not with all of the "expanded modules" some games use. Do a search for DirectX Web and you will find the installer and it will update the DirectX 9 components.

uninstall the adapter driver, reboot, ddu the box, reboot. install the display driver. reboot. check the driver settings, reset to default. try the game.

I believe this is a myth. never seen any concrete evidence on this.
But if you have any i would love to see it

well with te exception of coreparing core parking does mess up a lot of things

I've seen this affect the GPU so..check this and see what happens.

control panel, click on Hardware & Sound > Power settings (for category view) or Control Panel > Power options (for icon view) Select "Change Plan Settings" next to whatever plan you have selected. Click on "Change Advanced Power Settings" Expand "PCI Express" > "Link State Power Management" and change that setting to "Off". Restart windows

Well its not like ive already test it... oh wait i did
balacned vs high performance ( both with core parking disabled)

This is just one of the 11 system I've tested it on

My apologies if it wasn't clear as I quoted you SvenBent, but the link state check was meant for the op. Thanks for the numbers.

Exactly what I was trying to get at, thank you!

Who knows, I've seen that happen before tho. It's a Dx9 game. They didn't move to Dx10 until ME3 IIRC.

Your memory is failing you, ME:3 was DX9 only.

ME3 is a DirectX 9 game powered by Unreal Engine 3. First unveiled in 2004, UE3 is an old game development platform and has been used to power dozens of games since it was released. Though UE3 supports DirectX 9, 10, and 11 features, Mass Effect 3 uses only DirectX 9, so there are no options to enable or force DX10 or DX11 specific graphics features. In-game, the only graphics options are Anti-Aliasing and Dynamic Shadows.

You're right, I was swapping my facts. The engine was capable, but they kept the entire series in DX9. My bad, I'm turning into an old fart more and more every day ;).

I was always amazed I could run it MAX settings on older NV hardware like the GTS 250 at 1080P and it ran great. Not sure where I pulled the DX10 comment from, other than my ass... lol

Hey Hal, did you resolve this issue?

You could try Fast Sync which does often resolve low frame rate issues in some games.

Open up NVCP, go to Manage 3d, Global, and under Vertical sync, choose fast.

After that try running a game. This allows me to get nearly 1000fps in 2d scenes.
