With 10K RPM U160 drives, you won't see significant benefit from going dual channel over single channel on the RAID5. Especially not if they're the ubiquitous Cheetahs.
I am looking to get a dual channel raid adapter for a new (but old) server. I will be running the drives in raid 5.
I was wondering if I could benifit from using a two channel raid card running in raid 5 over a single channel card. I understand the failover and speed benifit it has for raid 1, but haven't heard of any speed benifit for raid 5 (i understand if a channel fails the whole thing is shot), or by running the array on 2 separate single channel cards.
The server specs are dual 900mhz xeons 2gb ram and 4 18.2 ultra3/160 drives and I plan on combining all 4 drives as one volume, and provided there be a speed benifit, put 2 drives on each scsi channel.
