Actual throughput: Ultra320, RAID 5, 1 logical volume?

Hello,

I'm testing the HDD throughputs on my servers and it appears that the RAID 5 array that's in one logical volume, attached to an Ultra320 SCSI controller has about 189MB/sec throughput; not the expected 320.

Is this a more realistic throughput?

Thanks!

Matt

How is the controller attached to the mainboard? How many disks of which type?

Isn't the 320 a theoretical maximum that can be obtained? I know my webserver had quad 15k SAS Raid10, and hdparm only came in at like 480MB/S

Are they 10k RPM drives or 15k RPM drives? Individual 15k RPM drives should hit about 70MB/sec. RAID 5 reads hit full speed with 5 or 6 (or more) drives in the array, any less and the controller still has significant free bandwidth.
