Sorry to hear that Droc, and thank you for the heads up. I'll try to remember to steer everyone away from Red Cap. Maybe he needs to find out about the negative press he's going to be receiving in forums, maybe i'll have to inform him myself as a prospective customer.

In the meantime, i don't recall your monitor's exact issue, but is there any way you can get your hands on an inexpensive replacement part? If you refresh my memory i'd be more than happy to lend a hand with an online search. Otherwise i'll check your previous posts in a short while.

Its the PCB for the tempered glass shimian. Otherwise perfect screen. Redcaps power supply melted and seems to have fried the screens PCB.
Pain in the ass as its the original tempered glass one thats to match my other one....and the only way to change the PCB is to access the screws that are behind the tempered glass. I essentially have to ruin the glass to change the PCB.

google it. there is a video on youtube aboout it.
basically you need a hair dryier, suction cups and an id card.
heat up the glass to soft the glue, put the suction cup on the glass, lift it gently and scrap the glue below with the id card.
to put it back, using double sided tape.

Just screams "quality" doesn't it? Every day I turn on my computer and the monitor turns on also I consider a blessing. Mines a red-cap special also.
 
Has anybody tested the input lag on the DVI-only model?

It's not a concern, mine's arriving tomorrow, just curious. Tests of the multiple input displays range from 25 to 30ms, average but not good for twitch gaming. Looking at tftcentral's tests, monitors with a gaming feature that bypasses the internal electronics take their input lag down by half or better.

Doing some research on input lag testing I see why I can't find any tests. You need to clone the output to accurately test it, the DVI-model can't scale and CRTs that support 2560x1440 probably don't exist. You would need to test another 2560x1440 with a known input lag against it to get a figure.

They turned out to be relatively low risk despite being purchased overseas with no warranty except for those with Squaretrade. The electronics are the same as the big name brands btw, both the panel and videoboards.

Very few have had serious issues in the thousands of posts across 3 forums.

People have tested them, it ranges from a 1/4 frame to 1/2 frame of input lag at most (fluctuates between 4ms to 8ms). This is not to be confused with pixel response time btw, which is something different.

Several versions of the mulitple input scaler models have been tested with the proper equipment, their input lag is between 16-20ms.

I get a different number for input lag everywhere I go and don't know enough about input lag testing to know who to trust. Some were low but most were higher so I assumed those were right. But now that you point it out I misread PRAD.DE's analysis which found ~19ms input lag before adding other factors. Thanks.

I'd be interested to read the DVI-only tests if you can find a link to them. Just out of curiosity.
 
Are the not pixel perfect ones usually without dead pixel or should i pay 50usd extra for "pixel perfect" one?

Going by the poll in the other forum, they are usually without dead/stuck pixels, but there's enough that come with dead/stuck pixels that you almost have to expect it. Hardly any have had genuine backlight issues which is something that's more important imho.

That $50 supposedly only covers bright/stuck pixels, not dead ones. But enough people have reported receiving bright/stuck pixels anyway even when paying extra for "pixel perfect".

Imho that money would be much better spent on a $50 SquareTrade warranty.
 
Whats the distance from the front of the screen to the back on those type: crossover 27q and catleap q270?

Kinda worried about desk space

Does the Shimian Lite support HDCP for blu-ray playback?

I'm looking to get a cheap (<$330) Shimian model. Which seller is my best bet? Links to specific auctions are good too. Best QC/dead pixel checking would be nice, I'd rather have a better dead pixel policy than having 2 days faster shipping or something.
 
All these support HDCP so far as I know, but those without scalers won't work with consoles or most (all?) set-top type BluRay players.
 
A review of another model says they don't do HDCP. I know they can't upscale, but you need HDCP to be able to play blu-ray movies off a BLU-RAY ROM right?
 
It may be already covered in this thread, but I'm hoping someone can just repeat it directly...Which of these Korean monitors has the thinnest bezels, or potentially removable bezels for easy use of three in portrait mode?

What's funny is that I've read the opposite in reviews/discussions of a couple of models.

Certain videoboard revisions, rev 2C for example, can perform "pixel doubling" where it take's a 720P signal and doubles it fullscreen and sharp.

1920x1080P Blu-ray player content would theoretically run 1:1 which means black bars all around.
 
Just ordered a Shimian IPSBS. Is there a profile floating out there that consistently makes the colors better, or does each screen differ too much for one profile to benefit all of them?
 
I ordered a Shimian Lite from dhsummer last week and didn't hear anything from the seller or eBay about it shipping out (unlike when I ordered from red-cap it shipped out the next day or so). I sent him (her?) a message today and he responded quickly with this:
Hi.
We are ebay seller dhsummer.
We feel very sorry we can not send item yet.
Because we received notice at Achieva head office.
They said that there are some problem in the monitor which produced last time.
So they recommend that do not send item to abroad.
We can not send item till approval of head office.
Please understand well.
If you want to cancel transaction, we can do it.

Or we'll receive NEW monitor at middle of this week from Achieva Head office.
Then we'll send new item.

So, should I agree to wait until ~Friday of this week to see if he ships it out or simply cancel and order from someone else? I wonder what kind of issue is causing the current stock to be bad.

I probably should've just listened to sun_tzu but dhsummer was $10 less than anyone else and has favorable feedback. I don't understand why this quality issue is only affecting dhsummer's supply though.

I just sent him a message asking what the defect is and I'll hopefully have an answer later today.

I just calibrated my monitor with a friend's Spider4 PRO. Seems mine had a green tint that I didn't notice until I switched between profiles. Probably not gonna do any good to anyone else but here it is just in case.

Still no response from dhsummer. I guess I'll him two more days then request a refund. Right now I'm using a 22" with a line of stuck pixels down the middle... what fun.
 
Bought mine from TA Planet Sunday morning, it's already on it's way to Hawaii from Alaska. No import issues.

You might wanna check out green-sum. I got one and my brother got one from them and they have been perfect.

Looks like his cheapest is $320 so I'll hold out a bit longer.

dhsummer marked my Shimian as shipped today (no response to my message I sent over a day ago) and there is a FedEx tracking number (which states "Anticipated ship date Oct 24, 2012" so I'm guessing he made this number the day after I ordered or something). Hopefully he did actually ship it out and that it isn't one of his defective ones.

Edit #2:
FedEx tracking has updated today and ETA on delivery is Nov. 5, making it 13 days from day of ordering.

Just reporting back I just picked up a GTX 670 and I can now see the BIOS and all other screens before the Windows drivers load perfectly, as I could not before with my ATI 5850's. Planning on ordering another display to make a 3 monitor setup for gaming....my second GTX 670 4GB comes in tomorrow......just need to find the funds to order another display. I am thinking about ordering this one. Anyone have any experience with Overlord?

overlord is supposed to be the safest bet for these monitors.
 
fell off the crossover 271 boat... now they are 300+100 shipped? why the $100 increase??
 
Just got it installed, there is A TON of black light bleed on top left corner, can I do something about it?

Received mine from dhsummer today (FedEx was way ahead of schedule, I guess). Looks to be made in October 2012 and has the Welltronics power adapter that was made in September.

It has 2-4 dead pixels (hard to tell what is one dead pixel and what are two dead pixels) in opposite corners. I will rarely notice them so I don't care. Thankfully it has no stuck pixels.

Overall, I am pleased.
 
I ordered mine on Wend night from redcap, he had a tracking number for me later that evening. Shipping was very fast:

For customs I got hit with tax (HST) on the $150 declared value and a $10 fedex fee for customs processing.

Here is the box as it arrived, no wrapping on the outside and some slight box damage near the handle, I'll try to get it hooked up and tested later this afternoon.
