I'm at my brother's house and have been using he and his wife's Macbook (because all they have is mac's). I have a bunch of music on an external hard drive that I was sharing with them. I removed it from one of the laptops to plug into the other one because the first ran out of disk space and I forgot to eject/unmount the drive before removing it. Now when I plug it into either of them the disk is not recognized and when I opened the system hard drive utility the repair drive function was greyed out. Anyone have any clues as to what I can do to get this thing working again? I've tried restarting the computer and powering on/off the drive several times..

What's the drive formatted as? NTFS?

You might not be able to repair a drive if it's formatted in a file format that OSX doesn't get along with.

Most likely the FS is marked as unclean... it will want to do an fsck (or chkdsk, depending...) when it gets plugged back in... 'cept that OSex doesn't support NTFS file system checks, most likely.

:(
