I know. 34" 1080p. But it's only $316, the closest to it's $300 black friday price. I use a GTX 1060 3GB, I'll never pull off 1440p with a decent frame rate. Ditto for 144hz unless it's really old games. I always game at 1080p, so 2560x1080p is not a stretch. I'm not thinking about work/productivity for this decision.

Only thing holding me back is the 34WK650 about to be available, seems virtually the same panel with HDR10 support. Then again, it doesn't support DCI P3 gamut and only goes to 300nits, so that "support" really just means it understands HDR10 signal, period. (Although, I can guarantee when I play HDR videos on my HDR10 capable but hardware-wise limited KU6290 I certainly notice a difference, probably due to the HDR10 signal being inherently better than SDR).

Do I pull the trigger on the 34UM68? Or wait for reviews on the 34WK650, and then decide if I get that VS wait for the next 34UM68 sale?

Opinions?

It is borderline acceptable. Depends on the game, you really want the game to support supersampling or some sort of really good anti aliasing to get rid of the jaggied/pixely edges.

Unless your sort of blind and it doesn't bother you that is.

my brother and father both have the 34" 1080p LG's, resolution looks decent, but I prefer 1440p personally, both of my 34"'s are 1440p.
I was gaming with mine on a single GTX980 for a couple of years, and the 1060 I believe is about the same power as a 980, so you could possible do 1440p.

The ppi of the 34" 1080p is about the same as a 27" 1080p screen, so you can look at one of those monitors and see if you like the large pixels in Windows if you don't have access to a 34".

I agree that 1440p at 34" is clearly better, but it's also twice the price. I use a 4K TV currently and have gamed at 1440p, it's jerky and not quite fluid, so I stick to 1080p. I figured a 34" would look like my 22" 1080p, just bigger. There's a 27" 1080p display somewhere in the house connected to a Mac, I'll steal that for a day and see how I deal with it. Thanks!

In the end, I can always just buy a 29" ultrawide when there's a good deal. The 29UM68 has gone down to $200 before, and the 29WK600 (the 29" version of the 34WK650) has a starting price of only $300, so that'll go down to at least $250 in no time.

Ideally I'd like a proper HDR ultrawide, with many FALD zones and good DCI P3 support, but I keep reading those are going to cost $1000+, a price I simply refuse to pay for in a monitor. If they made such a device, even at just 1080p, for $500 I'd buy that, but it seems monitor manufacturers are hell bent on overpricing this for the next good while. Just look at the 34UC79G, 1080p 144hz ultrawide selling for an obnoxious $600 just for the extra hz. Then on black friday it was discounted to $315, that's basically HALF the price. Which is not a normal discount even for black friday (usually more like %30). Which tells me that this monitor should really cost $450. So, meanwhile, I contemplate realistic buying choices: 29 or 34 ultrawide, between $200 and $500.

OK, so here's a Dell SE2717 1080p IPS my husband got last year with some text:

So, you're telling me that this is the pixel density of a 34" 2560x1080p? Because, OK, it's not as sharp as my main 4K display, but this is perfectly fine. I mean, I've been reading in forums that it would be horrendously blocky and fuzzy, and yeah, it's a bit pixelated, but this is frankly perfectly usable. I was expecting so much worse. If a 34" 1080p ultrawide gives me this + the sides... then I'm fine. No need to go down to 29". This will do for a few years until HDR becomes mainstream.

While I wait for the next sale and as the hubby is going away for a work trip, I think I might just leave the 3rd display on for now and dabble with Nvidia surround :D
