I was planning on turning my old 400mhz pc into a folder but am in need of a HD for it, too broke so I can't buy one.

But I do have a 1gig PC functioning as my web server for image hosting.

If I set this comp to fold, how will my hosting be affected?

I know the the program runs in the background using spare cycles, but will it affect my hosting?

1) You don't need a hard drive to fold.

2) I don't think your hosting will be seriously affected by folding.

look in the faq at the top of the DC section and you'll see a "diskless" folding guide posted by turmelle. also, if you have an extra cd rom floating around Arkaine23 has made a great linux build (knoppix variant) that I think works great (both for folding without a hard drive, and for getting to know linux very easily.)

it won't mess up your hosting machine any more than a virus scanner. (seems to slow down the busy machine by less than 5%.. and that was an older version) .. it stays mostly to CPU and very little disk/network IO... so it should matter even less.

Thanks.

I will look into getting that done.
And now, I'm off to get the foling installed, and help Team33
