Ok, i've checked the site, checked google and other sources, but cannot find a document saying what this bios updates, it is still listed at beta as well.

I went from 1303 to 1405 and noticed my recognized memory was still noticed at 4096mb, cool, the usable memory went from 2.8 to 3.8GB but of course WinXP Pro 32bit still only see's 2.75GB (I know a 32bit limit).

So has anyone figured out what exactly has been updated in 1405? Thanks!

Just an update although I haven't found what 1405 bios updated/fixed.

My board still went down to 2.75gb again in XP Pro 32bit, so I decided to try out Vista x64, It installed great and all (still doing drivers) but looked in the system properties to find it was still only using 2.75gb!! WTF!! After some more hassles I checked the bios to see it was again only seeing 2.8xxGB. So messing around I found in the memory section for a option to enable Memory Hole, after I enabled it I finally got my 4096GB to show up(yay). Now thats something I couldn't find on google!

I'm going to try it with 64 bit Vista. Did the memory black hole thing when I got 4 sticks. Thanks for reminding me. Got a gtx 260 coming Monday. I have been having problem with my 7950 overheating. No fan on it, just a radiator thing. Bad design I think. I see they don't make that kind anymore. But that's another story. I'll let you know if I see a difference with 1405.

I read 1405 has an update for Vista for low power state mode. I have noticed sometimes that mine doesn't awake from low power and I have to reboot. Maybe it fixes that?

If you mean low power as in sleep mode, it doesn't work for me with the 1405, it will go into sleep fine, and start to wake up once you do any input (mouse/kb) but never wakes up the monitor even if you turn the monitor off then back on, and if you hit the power button it doesn't shutdown, have to do a hard reset.

My power managment in bios is in auto, maybe when I have more time i'll look into S3 mode and such and report back.

Otherwise when installing vista x64 make sure to get the ATK0110 ACPI utility driver from asus (otherwise you will have a unknown device in device manager).

EDIT: Higgy, which GTX 260 did you buy? I just ordered a MSI GTX 260 myself, won't be here till tomorrow though and probably won't have any good test time till the weekend.

I decided not to try 1405. The new evga 260 solved my problems. It's running great now so I don't want to fix something that isn't broke. BTW RogueTrip, this mobo is mofo if you have hard drives plugged in the sata plugs and you use the top pcie slot with a 260, you have to smash down the sata connecter with the video card to get it in all the way. I had to push the clipped in first to get it to latch, then screw the other end down. They must not have forseen how big the future video cards would be when they designed this board. good luck! The 260 works great.

Hey higgy, got my GTX 260, I just moved my sata down to the next ports, but yeah, had a heck of a time getting the card in as well, I did the same thing to get mine in.

I have a question for ya, if you run 3dmark06, what marks do you get? I'm getting like 91xx but that was with 1405 bios, which was not a good bios, I kept getting lockups with the 1405 bios so its a good thing you decided not to update, i'm back to the 1303 bios now, i'll run 3dmark06 again and see if my marks went up.

Edit: with 1303 bios I'm getting:

9594 3dmarks
SM2.0 4161
SM3.0 5331
CPU 1841

I know the basic version forces 1280x1024 so now its cpu limited, yay! Maybe when taxes are done i'll go back to the intel side of things.

Is having 4 GB vs 2 GB of ram worth it? I am thinking about upgrading to 4 GB. What would yall recommend? Should I try to find 2 more GB of my exact type of ram? Should I try to find 2GB modules of DDR and go 2x2GB?

Thanks

If using XP 32bit no

In Vista 64bit, it is a good choice since the system usually takes about a gig after bootup. Then your left with the rest just for games.

DDR400 only comes in high as 1GB sticks, non-ECC non registered. They still aren't cheap! I'd still recommend stick with the 2gb and just wait it out till you do a cpu/mobo/ram upgrade, unless you really want to try and make it another year or so with the s939 you got.

Since your already using G. Skill you can get another 2x1gb for about $60 (what mine cost with 2-3-2-5 settings)

Crap, talk about support. ASUS put out another Beta Bios 1409!!
