I have the gigabit LAN port plugged into my switch (EZXS55W) which is also normally plugged into my Laptop on another port. After desktop pops up, it loads NVmix and my Wireless Software, then pauses for a long time considering.....

until LAN connection comes up, ITE SmartGaurdian, & Security Shield, pops up.

Is there a setting to bypass DHCP resolution on startup?

Thanks in advance,

Set the IP manually

If you had a router, it'd assign the IP while XP is booting up, but since your using a switch, XP has to assign itself an IP address.

Just assign an IP manually to the laptop and another to the desktop

if you open a cmd prompt and do ipconfig /all, whats it show now?

IP - 192.168.100.100
Sub - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - not sure, that'd be your DSL/Cable modem (if you have a connection to the net also plugged into the switch)
DNS - your ISP's DNS servers....

All that should be in the ipconfig /all listing

OK, I appreciate it.

I like to just click on the connection and switch tabs to view the settings.

I'll change everything over to manual.

I didn't know what a switch was....had it set up to auto because my laptop won't connect, so I just burned CD's

Thanks a gang,
