A place to start for OC'ing an 8800GT?

My cooling is in place.
The fans are turning.

What settings should I try for with my EVGA SC 8800GT?

i have the evga vanilla and i've been running at 700/1000 for about a week and 650/950 before that. no artifacts or freezing up so far. i set the fan to 42% anything above that is audible and my temps never go above 60 and idle at 40

I use ATI-tool to tweak my vanilla XFX 8800GT and made hotkeys to toggle between overclock speeds and stock speeds. The overclock I use is 700vcore/1000memory. Stock is 600/900.

Crysis locks up whenever I play it overclocked so I just hit my hotkey for stock speeds and Cysis runs smoothly. I haven't discovered any other games that freeze when I play them overclocked, I think Crysis is just a sensitive game with a highly advanced engine and needs to be treated differently then most games.

That's what happens when your engine is a piece of crap.

Try 690 on the core, 1637 on the shaders, and 970 on the memory, with fan speed at 100% and go from there. :)

Bumped it up to 745/1760/1000.

Crysis runs smoother, gained about 600-700 points in 3dMark06, and the temps are right about the same.

Woot! Those are exactly my clocks on my GT! :) I have the eVGA reference clocked card (600/900)

You also have the exact same cpu, Q6600.

If you bump that CPU to 3.6GHz, you'll easily break the 15k mark in XP.

My score = 15,206
GT = 745/1760/1000
CPU = Q6600 @ 3.6GHz (400x9)

For the guys OC'ing, can you also include your coolers? Or if you changed your fan settings? Thanks.

I have my EVGA 8800GT 256mb at 761/1904/1030 on RivaTuner

Runs 3DMark06 all the way through, so I call that fairly stable. I might bump down to 750/1869/1030 just to be on the safe side.
