I posted the above photo on two other photography sites and it looks razor sharp yet appears sort of blurry when posting above, which is weird.

A lot of my work recently has all been video stuff. Which is... well definitely a change. I more or less had to give myself a big crash course in it. I had done some small crew work jobs (as a camera PA, not even as a DP or First AC or anything), but I essentially had to learn to do everything as a single operator. That's taken a lot of my time. I still have a lot to learn there, but what I know is at least enough to keep me busy. There is definitely a higher demand in the video world than in photos (at least in my experience). As I think video is a lot harder to make look right. And all the filters in the world won't make phone video look or sound right, and editing (cutting together) a film is an art in itself.

That and I kind of stopped putting anything up on any social for a long while. I think this might be my first post in here this year (in terms of photos, not comments). I've been watching everyone else though. Lots of great work in here this year and I can just see everyone is growing by leaps and bounds. The community here is small, but it's awesome.

EDIT: Also as a side note, I have plans on hopefully putting together a fairly large personal shoot early next year. Here's hoping all the pieces fall in place. I'll make sure to put up stuff if it happens.

Was really tough trying to get anything good while out with the family - 4 grandkids ages four to one - at the Warm Beach Christmas lights... but I liked this one.

It's also very tough getting all 4 of them to stand still long enough for a pic, so you take what you can get. Just a snapshot, but hey, I like it. :D

I haven't posted in a while, and you can probably guess why given my last post was a photo of my wife ready to go into labor any day now. I haven't had a chance (or the motivation/energy to be honest!) to go out and do any winter landscape photography since my daughter was born...I was actually gonna go sometime during the holidays, but this government shutdown means that the Black Hills National Forest and Badlands National Parks' roads are probably in bad shape (we've been hit by a couple winter storms recently).

Anyway, of course I did my own newborn shoot. Here's my daughter, Victoria Sakura!

^^Congrats on the new family member. Hope you guys have a happy New Year!

Went with GF and her niece/nephew to the Lights of the World in Phoenix a week ago. Was pretty dark, and have to do fast shutter speed for action shot at high ISO, so quite bit of grain.

Here's a couple of pics I took in Australia with my Note 8. I really don't have much of a clue about photography, but I kinda like these.

Sydney Opera House on a nice rainy and windy AF day (all of the trash cans there were full of destroyed umbrellas)
Nice Pics.. Here a some similar shots I took. :) These were taken in 2014 with my Nikon D90. I stayed mostly in Brisbane, but visited Sydney, and the town of 1770 as well.

Taken from one of the water shuttles:

Some cell snaps from my visit to Sanibel Island where my brother and I surprised my Mom for her 75th birthday. I didn't want to bring the DSLR... and the trip really made me want to get some kind zoom travel camera - either a micro 4:3 or 1" all-in-one so I can take better and more varied pics, but don't have to bring all my gear.

So.... pursuant to my comment in my last post...

...I picked up a Panasonic Lumix ZS100 1" sensor camera as the best compromise between pocketability, sensor size and zoom range before this last weekend's trip to Vegas. And I am very happy with it. It does require some Lightroom tweaking for best results, but the base image information is surprisingly good and gives LR a lot to work with. My only wish is that these things would have some kind of attachable or otherwise mechanically enabled circular polarizer to fight reflections when taking pics through perspex. I know the FZ1000 and Sony RX10 take filters, but they're too big to be pocketable.

There's a lot here, just wanted to show the range of conditions I shot in to show the surprising (to me) capabilities of the camera. Mostly applied: Auto-adjust, Dehaze, clarity and 25% luminance and color noise reduction, then tweaked the results with various minor individual tweaks. I didn't adjust color temp at all - though looking at these now, that might have been a good idea to tweak that for a few of them.

Mukilteo, WA post-sunset. Sunset had promise when it was "setting up" 20 minutes before sunset and I raced out of the house to catch it, but it fell flat as it continued. However, the pics turned out better than expected given the conditions.
