I have a friend who wants to buy a laptop and use it to run an autocad program.. I need some suggestions for the laptop and for the program. I have no idea how powerful the laptop needs to be or which autocad program is good.

Any help for a knowledgeable source would be appreciated.

perhaps Lenovo Thinkpad P1 with xeon cpu and quadro gpu, just a suggestion

Depends on how serious he is into AutoCad.

Doing small models or 2D one-lines AutoCad doesn't require much special.

If your trying to model an entire factory line floor in 3D, you need some serious horsepower.

There is every single use case in between.

As far as software - Autodesk is the defacto standard, at least here in the US, in construction and general engineering.

If you are doing primarily 3D design or specific industries, other programs may apply: Solidworks, Blender, Maya, and even Sketchup are all fairly popular.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will need to get more info from my friend. I doubt that he really knows what he needs as well.

I will suggest that he download sketchup and start there. Before investing in a laptop and and an autodexk superscription.
