Amazon has a bunch of HD DVD now for $4.75. Free shipping with orders over $25 or free shipping if you are a prime member. I believe the last time i checked these were $5 each, so a drop of $.25 may be considered a decent deal?

Fast and the Furious
Face Off
Trading Places
Mission Impossible 2
The Big Lebowski
The Rundown
Transformers
Anchorman
Payback
Transformers
12 Monkeys
The Mummy

some good ones in there for cheap...
Serenity
Deer Hunter
Riddick unrated Dir cut

I bought like 8 DVDs from this guy when they were $5! I want my $2 back! :p

jk... Great deal, this seller is pretty awesome. Theres a couple other sellers like him in Amazon marketplace, if anyone is looking for different titles not linked in the original post. I dont think their stock varies much from his though.

OMG can I has laser disc?!?!? Damn that's a hot price for some HD-DVD's, even cheaper than most DVD's at that price. I wish they would make Blu-Rays cheaper... Damn the market.

must.... not.... use credit card to buy more hd movies, dang it I hate these deals because they are all the exact same quality as their blu ray counterpart plus a lot cheaper, and after finding the xbox hd-dvd drives at a closing circuit city, I dont have to worry about a broken player. dang it, it's cheaper to buy these than rent them on blu and there is a bunch of titles i want. Im giving it a couple more hours maybe theyll be out of stock

if you look on amazon, I saw some HD-DVDs for $2.99 actually..

Try buying the BR version at the same price.

Blu Ray's not dead. Just picked up a Blu Ray burner a couple of weeks ago and seeing deals like this makes me think about getting an HD DVD player but I hate buying dead stuff like most people which is why you see these kinds of deals.

Thanks op. These are great deals, and I will see plenty of titles I want there. Save a lot of money vs bluray.

For those of use who got the LG dual format drives these cheap HDDVDs are awesome. Just rip it with AnyDVD HD and add to the collection.

Blu Ray's not dead.

Never implied it was.

You implied since the format is "dead" that the movies have no value.

My attitude is since there is no visual difference between a BR movie and a HDDVD movie then the HDDVD price is a splendid value for movies I don't own yet and wish to see.

They have less PERCEIVED value, that's why they are cheap. That's not to say that these deals are not good. It seems however that HD DVD is more popular in death than in life.

Personally I was hoping HD DVD would win this round because it was a cheaper technology than Blu Ray.

you can still find $29 xbox hd-dvd players around, and they work with any pc. also, the slightly higher priced lg bd drive (ggc-h20l, nice drive btw) also play hd-dvd if you have powerdvd 7 ultra.

already got all the HDDVD movies i wanted. i'll get more once they hit the $2-$3 mark. Maybe get one of all the rest that are still there. Sure the format is dead, but they are still comparable to bluray. 1080p for less than a dvd = pwnzors.

I got a few movies picked out, just deciding now if I should pull the trigger now and buy.. I got

land of the dead
dawn of the dead
fast and the furious
daylight
born on the fourth of july
top gun
the bourne identity
serinity
transformers
seed of chucky
chronicles of riddick
all for 57.92
what you guys think? should I do it

I have a few hd dvds now, I'm just kinda afraid that I will get all these movies and then my hd player will ahem.. quick working lol.... I have the external one for the xbox

So the Xbox HD-DVD player works with a PC, no moding needed? I have TotalMedia Theater which works great with with Blu Ray and work with HD DVD.

I bought the LG drive and I've been coverting all my HD-DVDs to AVCHD's to play in my PS3.. really painless process with AnyDvdHD and Ripbot264

OK, I got the LG multi-drive... which is why I'm watching for as many of my favorite titles in cheap HD-DVD format as possible.

Ripping takes too much HDD space, so I look for titles that I can get on HD-DVD, and not worry about storing .iso's on my system.

Good deal until your HD-DVD player dies. I wouldn't build up the library too much!

I hate the absolute "disposable product" mentality that has engulfed our society.

It's gotten to the point where people don't even realize that electronic equipment CAN actually be repaired, rather than thrown into the trash.

But, that's right.... big corporation doesn't make any money when you repair stuff, so they'll continue to offer cheap Chinese products that will also break after a year, to be replaced by yet another cheap Chinese product that will break in a year....

(sorry for going off-topic)

Heh- I have a stand alone player ($59 shipped with 2 movies) and internal drive ($18 shipped geeks.com) and the X-Box player.

buy 10 HD-DVD movies instead of 10 BR movies and have enough cash left over to get a spare HD player or two. Dead? Maybe, but still makes enough sense to me to keep buying 'em.

I have a PC HD-DVD reader in case my HD-DVD player chokes and cant be replaced or repaired.

lol. Your average consumer has no idea how to repair a HD-DVD player, if they could even find all the parts. And your average repair shop is going to charge so much that it would be better to just buy another one.

Yes, because stuff made in the USA, in Japan, in Mexico, in Malaysia, in India, in Brazil etc never ever breaks after a year...

The Chinese people thanks you for teaching us market economy....

ummm... duh

Actually, that is a very big misconception. Most people just assume that repair shops charge way too much. Heck, half of the time the units only suffer from bad caps.

But my point was... if your HD-DVD player broke, and you couldn't find another one anywhere in the world... it still wouldn't make your HD-DVD's useless because you could get the player repaired.
But this society is so used to tossing crap out when it dies, that nobody even remembers that electronics CAN be repaired.

BTW, I've got two "wish lists" of cheap HD-DVD's.
--One from Fry's
--One from Amazon
I compare them once a week, see who's cheapest that day, and buy a few.
That kinda eases the burden of building up the collection... and let's face it, there's no hurry. It's not like the movies are going UP in price! :p

The only good thing that HD-DVD players are good for is extracting the blue laser diodes.
