9th Annual BOINC Pentathlon hosted by SETI.Germany

Oh you should see the tab for each run event. Click on the one that is active.

I've enable Rosetta with 1hr tasks. I'm not sure how it will run on my 2 systems.

Edit: 2% done at 5minutes. I don't think the 1 hr thing is going to pan out. Or does the percent done, go "faster" later in the WU?

Rosetta is a good project to bunker. I would expect other teams to drop big bunker on the last day. So we all should bunker some ;).

Oops shouldn't post this here. My bad.

Will the 7980XE be ready by tomorrow?;)

It could be. haha. Maybe I'll get one in a year when they are a lot cheaper.

Edit: Rosetta keeps downloading 10 hour tasks, even downloads them when I have it set to 0 days of storage. Grr.

Hit 1000 pending tasks on PrimeGrid. Maybe will be at 1500 come the start of the contest. And they are "older" tasks so hopefully they have a high chance of getting validated.

Ugh. LOL

I'll make up for it. :p

Edit: 3/4 the hard work is done:

View attachment 73346

Just need to get my tent up top and the hvac ducting in - then we are golden!

Gonna get the CPUs up, and the GPU drivers flipped over to the latest.

That looks pretty slick i must say. I can understand the need as i have a fraction of that number of gpu's and i have been strategically opening windows all over the house all day. If its at all warm where you are then that much GPU power would be like running a gas furnace in july.

Oh it's bad here in Dallas, Texas. :D

That being said, this grow tent should do the trick.

I am venting out dual 7" -> 6" outlets from the tent itself, then merging them into a single insulated 6" line that will run to my dryer outlet. Gonna taper it down to 4" to fit the outlet.

Putting in a 6" 500CFM inline fan directly after the 7"-6" duct taper, and then another 4" 300CFM inline unit just after the 6-4" taper to ensure that there is no build-up of air pressure.

I am going to get this done tonight. I generally have 0 time during the week, so it's really now or wait until next weekend. Clearly, next weekend is not an option. :p

Edit: really shoulda gotten a 6 pack of booze to assist with this.

Edit2: i put the CPUs back on NumberFields - Asteroids wasn't giving any CPU stuffs.

Welp.

First reports are in: Not quite ready for prime-time. I think i can leave a couple of the rigs up, but not the whole set.

Need more CFM sucking heat out. The test is suprisingly effective at capturing heat / air mass.

This will 100% work - but just needs some tweaks.

Edit: Gonna get me a set of these bad boys :D

auntjemima That fixed it. >.> CPUs are on Asteroids now.

Now: my ducting setup updates..

Log1: Scrapping the whole insulated ducting thing. Going all aluminum - straight pipes + semi-ridgid.

Log2: Not sure if i need any inline fans. My total line is perhaps 45' tops. When i checked the CFM exiting the 6"-4" taper, i could swear it was gale force winds. LOL

Log3: Ordered the new ducting system from Home Depot just now. Got my Wye branch ducts in the mail too.

The real requirement of this whole thing is coming down to this: "Can i merge ~2k CFM worth of hot air into a single 4" dryer exhaust vent." :p

I am feeling very confident it will work (even without fans) - the tent does its job catching the hot air (sealing is not even optimal), the line run to the dryer vent is not long enough that ~2k CFM air can't overcome, and the merge w/ the dryer vent seems to work seemlessly.

I also feel that this configuration could be expandable if it turns out i need even more venting - just drop in another cut on the tent, and merge via Wye branch to the main line.

Alright.

It is 10:30pm, and i'm going to leave things as they are. I've got the metal piping in, but several of the rigs are still overheating cause i had 120m fans inside the cases directing air from the back of the case directly onto the cards when they were horizontally stacked up on the window.

So, I'm going to call it a stop here and consider this a victory - the piping makes all the difference.

I'll have all the CPUs up + several of the rigs that are not overheating up.

Tomorrow after work i'll figure out a way to get 120mm fans back into the cases and we'll go from there.

Edit:
Here's a pic at the tent:

You have a window right behind it. Why not dump it out the window?

Well, so - that window.

That was my setup before these whole shens began.

I had these things stacked 2 wide, 3 high up on that window just pouring out the heat. Worked great if i had the other window (2 panes over), open.

So, things got a tad hotter - and i closed the window 2 panes over. My rig temps shot through the roof. Literally, +20C in a matter of ~15m. Opened the other window, temps receded. Did that whole thing several times, and exactly the same action/reaction. I know it is something to do w/ air pressure on the side of a building, but that is about the only thing that makes sense to me.

If this whole ducting thing doesn't work out, i'll give the window option a shot again.

Put em all back in the window.

46 of 55 GPUs are up on PrimeGrid. (is it worth?)

Let's see if she holds.

Edit: Next upgrade for the fleet: better cases. That push-pull action is exactly what i need.

Edit2: So, who wants some HVAC stuff? LOL I got ducts, pipes, collars, um.. tape..

We should have a "Jankiest short term setup for the Pentathlon" award / badge.

The "long term home improvement" types can be another category.

I highly recommend USPS large flat rate boxes for atx builds.

Medium boxes for matx or itx.

They deliver clean empty boxes for free - no tip required, either.

Dude, you are as [H] as they come. I salute your efforts.

No...they ran out of work. Make sure you have Numberfields going in the meantime. Or just switch entirely

I put box fans in my windows to pull or push air out.

Also, I use USPS flat rate boxes for two of my 4P setups. Haha.
