9800 GX2 Pictures and Specs

They need to lift the NDA already so I can figure out what I want to buy for my new rig. I'm gonna end up sitting here with a friggin Q9450 and nothing else because I don't know if I'll be going Crossfire or SLI. ;) This NDA-until-on-store-shelves crap is annoying. I almost preferred the paper launches and reviews 2 months in advance. (almost.)

Nice almost $800. I hope that is not what they go for here in the states cause that is just INSANE. I would only pay that kind of money if the card performs 5x faster than an 8800 Ultra.
Remember we have stupid taxes and customs in Europe to so the price is more like 1:1 Euro:USD so count with like 550-6000 USD for the MSI O.C.

Yeah, that VAT's a Bitch.. Look how much it adds to the cost of Gasoline in Europe.. Without the VAT, it would be the same price here!

In Finland:
1.35€/l for E95 fuel
This is 7.66 USD / US gallon

So it's little bit more than twice compared US. 80% of that price is due taxes.

Wow.. that is Crazy.. US Taxes on Gasoline are about 15% in most states.. So a $3.00 Gallong of Gas is actually $2.55..

BUT, they tax us heavily on our income to pay for Road construction and Maint, where the VAT taxes the hell out of the fuel for it..

Back on Topic, wonder what the VAT percentage for PC electronics are?

I think they forgot 8800 ultra :p I mean that here in Europe 2x8800 GTX costs only 65€ more than 1x8800 Ultra at the moment.

Oh you poor things have income tax? Well we have near 50% income tax for those who have bigger salary (smaller for those who don't make that much money). That's what it takes to have best school system in world + free college + free health care etc. :p

VAT depends on country. For Germany it's 18% and here in Finland it's 21%..is it like 17.5% for UK? Well if you buy stuff from Germany and you live in Finland it's basically 18% always.

The $400 for the 9800GTX isn't too bad, but if it really is just an OCed G92-8800GTS then I don't much see the reason for it (unless, of course, it was going to arrive during my Step-Up period, xD).

ugh, 600 for the Gx2 is ludicrous considering its 2x GTS G92.. and those are hitting 220~ after rebate now. 3870x2 is a better deal than that. Glad i stepped up to the gts g92.

The better deal than either the 3870X2 or the 9800GX2 is two OCed G92-8800GTS's in SLI...

In general I'd agree, but there's one unmistakable advantage for getting the 9800 GX2 instead...you don't have to put up with NVIDIA's crappy Intel-based chipsets. :p

Actually, I've heard some pretty good things about the 780i, which I was definitely surprised about given all the negative things I've heard about the 680i.

I think Dan and Kyle will disagree, so will a lot of users on Hard.
But just for the sake of it, care to share your sources?

For starters, from what I've seen of the reviews they indicate that the Intel mobos are still preferred but that the 780i is not necessarily a poor board. A couple of friends who have purchased 780i's have spoken well of them, and, checking around the internet, I haven't yet seen much sentiment that they are unreliable, as the 680i's appear to be.

You sound very misinformed.

Yeah, I use an mATX case too (x-qpack), and I already bought a new power supply for my next graphics card upgrade. I hope I don't have to buy a new case as well.

I would disagree. I am not too happy with my 780i, although it runs good, it doesn't run perfect such as my intel boards.

The only reason I'm still on Nvidia boards is because of my monitor... to power this 30"er in games, you need SLI power. If I can get an intel board with SLI support, I would have abandoned this camp years ago.

Fuad says the GX2 = teh hotness. Never woulda guessed.....

Fuad says anything that puts him in the spotlight.

When I think of Fuad I think of some spoiled Eastern European mafia brat who hasn't had to work a day in his life.

Yes, I Ieft Nvidia and did not look back. I started by selling my 30 inchers, moving to 22inch and an intel platform. I do miss my 30 incher but not the huge amount of money i was spending on Video subystems.

I will eventually go back to the 30 again and spending buckets of money on cards but as a retailer, I have to hedge my bets during the current economic slow down. Fortunately , cards like the Gt and GTs afford me boatloads of performance at the naitive resolution of my current monitors

The Intel D5400XS supports SLI.
Honestly if they can get SLi on that board I don't see why they couldn't release an X48 with SLi support on it. If someone released an X48 with SLi/Crossfire support I would actually make the upgrade to DDR3 as well. I know there are X48's with DDR2 support, but I am sure I am not alone when I say that I would bite the bullet and spend on the DDR3 if it meant I could have Intel chipset stability with an nVidia SLi capable chipset. I am positive that TONS of enthusiasts would also make the switch. It would be an INCREDIBLE money making opportunity for Intel and nVidia. nVidia would sell so many video cards that it would COMPLETELY make up for the money they wouldn't be making off their horrible SLi motherboards.

Intel don't care for NVIDIA MPC's on their mobo's, NVIDIA and Intel have never been "chumps".

Basicly: Intel don't need NVIDIA and they like to point it out.
