what do you guys recommend? no one has a definitive answer, so i guess i should ask here on h.

Hasn't this been discussed to death already? What possible reason would anyone suggest the 980 ti over the 1070 if they are around the same price?

980 Ti OC to 1070 OC. 980 Ti is faster.
Price 980 Ti is cheaper by 20-70 bucks depending on what you are looking to compare.

Power 1070 is better.
Heat 1070 is better.
VR 1070 is better.

Since I don't give a crap about the 1070 benefits, I recommend a new or used 980 Ti for 350 or less.

An oced 980 ti is only a few percentage faster overall when both are overclocked and they will still trade blows.

I'm pretty sure the new chip will have more window for the OC bro.

What does that even mean? If you have bothered to look at any reviews then you would know that the 1080 and 1070 have much less overclocking headroom compared to the 980 ti.

So in that case if you have the money is better get a card that OC's more but is an old family? Rather than get a brand new chip with efficiency and features?

I would get the newer card no doubt unless I got a really good deal on a 980 ti.

The most common recommendation I have seen is "whichever is cheaper".

At the same price, I'd choose 1070, for a variety of reasons (length of driver support, DX12 "If it isn't any better, it can't be any worse than previous gen", power usage, VRAM etc etc).

this exactly.

Is the MSI 980 Ti Armor 2x edition just a solid one? It isn't prestigious enough to get many reviews. There is a factory OC.

I agree sites should max out the games and be consistent, but how much does FPS increase lowering settings to High? 15%?

Is 1070 SLI really possible with an EVGA 650 platinum PSU? They're both only 150w? Crazy.

As already mentioned...
If you dont need the added features of the 1070 and can get a good deal on 980ti get it.
Otherwise 1070.

If you need SLI: 980Ti
If you only need a single card: 1070

The 980Ti drivers are more mature for SLI.

Which ever is cheaper!
For $350-$400 get the 980TI
For $430-$480 get the 1070

I see the prices have not come down at all for the 980TI which is crazy! Hello? Time to clear out old inventory! There were some on sale few weeks ago for $350 to $399, but as of right now if the cards are the same price which they are, I checked amazon and newegg, get the 1070.
