Fellow forum-ers.

I decided to upgrade my third (in chain of command :p) rig to aid in some light gaming.

It is a PentiumD 820 @ 3.0GHz, 2GBs ram, and currently one 7600gt 256.

What should I pick for to replace the graphics card? I am trying to decide between the 9600GSO 512mbs version, the 4670 and 9600gt 512mbs version.

All of them cost almost exactly the same (at 55-58 euros). So... which one to pick? And, so that you know, the monitor will be a 22 inches samsung at 1650x1080 native.

The best out of those three, is definitely the 9600 GT.

Power consumption is not an issue :)

I just read somewhere that 9600GSO actually beats GT because of extra shaders, and loses because of less memory, but since the models I consider buying both have 512 ram, should i still go with the GT ?

Thank you all for bothering to help ;)

The 384 MB 9600GSO and the 768MB 9600GSO both have 96 shaders, and sometimes beat the 9600GT, however, the 512MB GSO has thoughtfully been crippled by Nvidia to only 48 shaders, making it inferior to the 9600GT. The 9600GT is by far the best card of the bunch ;)

The core change from G92 (96 of 128 SPs enabled) to G94 (48 of 64 SPs enabled) is what crippled it. The 9600GSO went from great for the price to meh. Cutting shader performance in half should have been enough for a new name. Thankfully I managed to get 2 of the 96 SP 384MB and 768MB cards while they were dirt cheap (~$30-$40AR) a couple of months ago.

yeah, the 9600GT is the best and will be the best for your system.

Isnt his cpu a major bottle neck? where all 3 cards would perform the same due underpowered processor

That's pretty game specific, although it could probably use an upgrade. As a third string though, I'm sure it'll do just fine. Perfect to play some BF2 on.
