Just to let you know they are 8x with only DVD+R. DVD-R is only 4x, can not remember the -RW and +RW speeds but they are 4x or less.

I have the Plextor Drive and it works very well.

Plextor if you want the absolute best quality and burn speeds and relibility.

Liton if you want a good drive, not as high quality components and lacking in some features and save few bucks.

My Plextor rocks, I freaking love it, so damn fast compared to my TDK.

FYI, the Lite-On MAY be upgradeable to 8X -R and 4X-RW specs. There's some work going on in this regard, as the chipset of the drive definitely can do it. Plextor has categorically ruled out any upgradation on the -708A. So I say go for an -811S, use the 60$ you save to get some more DVD blanks.

lite on is not cheap....they make decent gear. for wiw. ive had plextor drive go bad, and only after 20 burns the whole 1.5 years i had it. never more than 2 CDs a day.

my Fiance has had an HP burn 3-4 cds in a day. for 3 years. and it still works. go figure.

I've got a Plextor 504A - really like it. Planning on the 8x version for my new Dual XEON system.
