I'm currently using an 8800gts 320mb. The card is doing fine, but I'm building an SFF system. Is there a video card that will do just as well if not better and do it passively? or extremely quietly?

Right now I'm considering the asus gtx260 in .. matrix form? but it's not sold in the US yet.. tomshardware suggests it has some extreme undervolting capabilities so that I could run it passively when doin normal things.

Any other cards that come with easy features like that? I'm not looking to install additional heatsinks and such. The less work possible is my aim.

I found a passively cooled hd4850 on the 'egg.

Plus there's a passive 9600gt and a couple hd4670's on there

The 4850 is definitely faster than what you already have. The 9600gt and 4670 are only a bit faster, but a lot cheaper. Which to get depends on the resolution you're using and your budget.

well... my budget goes to $200. and I run a 1920x1200 and a 1600x1200. the hd4850 looks pretty good at this point though.

The 9600GT is faster than an 8800GTS ? I would of thought that the extra 32 SPs on the 8800 would of given it more of an edge, I sure didn't think it would of gotten beaten by a 9600GT. Wow, I weap for my old 8800. Anyway, if you can't afford a 4850 you might want to look into a passive cooled 4770 if there is one (might not be because it is new), it would be a good in between for the 4850 and 9600GT.

i don't think a 9600gt is faster than an 8800gts 320. 4670 would be the cheapest way to go. 4670 has the performance of a 3870, which performs about the same as an 8800gt. 4770s are in low supply right now, tsmc was having some fab issues. so if you need a card and don't want to wait the 4670 would be a good choice.

I can't believe there's a passive 4850, my old 4850 ran hot as hell with the single unit stock cooler, like 90C after a few hours of fallout.

If you want passive, you better have a lot of air being pulled through the case. If not, you are gonna have some fried electronics.

oh dont' worry about airflow :D I got tons of extra fans and am fine at making fan mods.

most importantly I want a platform that's quiet to begin with - good heat regulation. I'd rather deal w/ the case and external work than install a new heatsink. It can be as hot and game-powerful as it wants on load.. but I'd like it to cool down and under volt when in idle mode.. which is what that asus matrix stuff claims to do... but it ain't sold in the US yet ><
