I had an EVGA 8800gt 512MiB die on me just now. I plugged in an older Diamond 3850 256MiB for now... This really sucks during the holidays since I spent a lot of money on gifts and don't really want to replace it.

The Details:
When I turn my computer on it boots up, everything looks normal, then when starting up the last couple processes (one being some nVidia executable) the whole screen turns into a pattern of artifacts and nothing is displayed outside of a moving mouse pointer. I can move it around, but nothing else will display. The thing has been running great until just now.

Anyone hear of that one before? Simple fixes?

sounds like the RAM went bad. You could try underclocking the RAM, but it would be a temporary fix. RMA it.

hehe, found a bug on the web-site while processing the RMA. Can't submit until they fix it, so just waiting for them to respond to my bug report :/

In any case, going to go see how well EVE runs on this 3850 thing.

well that's unsettling. It's only a few FPS lower. Down to 78 from 83.

i have 2 unused EVGA 8800GTs on my desk. ill tell them the bad news so they can morn the loss of one of their own.

QQ he will be missed.
