No question to it 8800GTX outperforms the GX2 by a decent amount with better image quality as well.

whats the verdict?.... 8800 GTX or 7950 GX2?

8800 GTX no doubt. I was impressed with the achievement the GX2 was, but the GTX is far more impressive in all counts: performance, image quality and even fps/dollar, since, right now, the GX2 is still somewhat expensive.

The 8800GTX is a far superior part. Much better performance, better visual quality, DX10 support for Vista.

In my opinion, unless you can get a 7950GX2 for half the price of an 8800GTS or 8800GTX there is NO reason to buy a 7950GX2 at this point.

This is no contest, there is no other logical answer than the 8800 GTX as the winner in this comparison.

I voted for the little guy but still One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do. Two can be as bad as one. It's the loneliest number since the number one. :D

Why on earth would you vote for the inferior card?

I guess that proves that there is always one.......................

Its a lot cheaper for the current games we have. New gen video cards are way over priced. Plus its a great card that didn't have any votes.

I don't know if he mentioned price though. I was under the assumption that he was looking for the fastest card (which could be incorrect). If you are looking for the cost/performance advantage... then I'm not sure. I haven't priced any of those cards in a while.

By all means, the 8800GTX is superior and does have support for DX10. Take a look at the latest review of the Asus 8800GTX by [H].

The card is killer!

No.

It seems to me that 7950GX2's are still selling for quite alot of money. The 8800GTX's on the other hand are getting much cheaper all the time. They aren't that far apart in price and the 8800GTS can be had for close to $400.

You could also go with an 8800GTS which will still out perform the 7950GX2 and has DX10 support.

I stand by my statement that anyone buying a 7950GX2 at this time is a fool. Unless you get it used or new for around half the price of the 8800GTS or GTX of course.

8800GTX/GTS > 7950GX2 = ALWAYS

If you are an informed consumer, there is simply no way you could conclude not to purchase the 8800GTS or GTX instead of the 7950GX2. The price/performance ratio of the 8800GTS/GTX is simply better than that of the 7950GX2.

If you have the money...and is willing to spend it. 8800GTX Baby!!!!
If you are on a budget...and is willing to upgrade later on. 7950GX2

Wrong. 8800 GTS beats 7950 GX2 in terms of performance and features. And 8800 GTS is cheaper than 7950 GX2. There is no reason an informed consumer would purchase the 7950 GX2 at this point. It would be simply retarded.

No. This is wrong.

Show me where a NEW 7950GX2 can be had 33% cheaper than an 8800GTS. All the sites I've found that still have 7950GX2's want more for them than the 8800GTS's. Therefore it does NOT MAKE SENSE to buy the inferior card as it costs more money than the superior 8800GTS.

The cheapest 7950GX2 I found was about $30 MORE than the 8800GTS and offers LESS performance and LESS features. Why is this hard to understand?

Even the 8800GTX is the better buy in my opinion. It offers more than 20% of a performance improvement, and can be had for LESS than a 20% increase over the cost of the cheapest 7950GX2 I found. The price/performance ratio looks better on the 8800GTX to me than it does on the 7950GX2. With the 8800GTS being lower cost than both of them and offering more performance than the 7950GX2, buying a 7950GX2 seems stupid.

Damn beat me to it. At least someone can see how wrong buying a 7950GX2 is other than me.

You'd be crazy not to get an 8800GTX at this point in hardware. At the moment, nothing can touch it.

Well....I guess I will reword my post. But I have seen many 7950GX2's sell cheaper then a 8800GTS. But he did not have a choice for a 8800GTS, so how would I know? Ohh...Well.. I still rec. a 8800GTX. :)

Having just stepped up to a 880GTX from the 7950GX2 I must say without a doubt the G80 is the bees knees atm..Speed IQ et al is all there..Im very happy with my step up..

The 4 people who voted for the 7950GX2 probably all bought 7950GX2's just before the 8800GTX launch and are in denial concerning it's power. :D

Probably the same crew who stuck up for the Nvidia FX series right after the 9800 release :D

Yeah I've still got my FX :(

I'm so glad I didn't hop onto the 7950GX2 bandwagon. If you've got the card now, it's not a bad one and if it works for you... don't change.
But if you are buying new... STAY AWAY! :D

I'm glad no one has brought up the argument of Quad SLI (even though it never worked very well to begin with)

Quad SLI worked, but not correctly. There seemed to be too much overhead with it and the drivers never really solved that problem. It just seemed really ineffecient to me. You didn't get the same % of improvement you do with standard SLI.

I never bought the 7950GX2 either. It was because at the time it was released, Quad SLI didn't work yet and one 7950GX2 was slower than my dual 7900GTX's in SLI. So I stayed away. By the time they got around to fixing Quad SLI, it made some improvement in performance here and there, but I didn't feel it was worth it as I knew the G80 cards weren't that far off. So I opted to skip that generation of card and wait.

That's one of the few times I've done that and I am glad I did. I did have two X1950XTX's for awhile, but those are significantly cheaper than the 7950GX2's were.
