800usd build for a friend

No on the ModXStream; get the Antec NEO ECO 620C instead.

May I ask why you decided to go with a microATX board and the Mini P180? That case's outside dimensions make it as big as some ATX mid-tower cases.

a little easier to skim on cost without sacrificing (too much) quality, imo. (would have been easier to go with AMD, i know)

also, the case is pretty for being relatively cheap :D

Cool, though. The PSU i selected was the only part i wasn't terribly confident about, anyway

I would have spent the money on a decent ATX P55 board (or a nice combo deal) and the CM 690, instead.

ah ha, that combo is brilliant. i'll have to talk to him about the case, though

Instead of constantly updating the wish list link (which seems to be dead, yet again), you should simply just post (and link) the parts you're considering in this thread.

sorry, i knew the link died again last night, i just had a late night and didn't feel like turning the comp back on after messing with my OC. it's on my server box now; http://wilsonfi.com/tmp/800usd_build1.htm

off subject, but is there a specific amount of voltage i should step up to when going from 20x to 21x, without changes to the base clock ?

21x is giving me quite a hard time. i suppose it could just be that i am using 6 sticks of ram..? don't really feel like pulling sticks out to get a higher oc :\

running 170x20 now, STILL on stock cooler with as5. going to get the noctua cooler next, just got my second 275

Not liking that case or 500gb hard drive for 55 when if you look a little a 1tb can be had for a little more and be much faster. I'd go to microcenter and get the processor.

Actually there's only a handful of 1TB drives that offers similar performance to the Samsung F3 500GB drive that the OP has. And those tend to cost about $50 more.

If you were going with a 5850 or better I wouldnt question it, but I would drop that CPU mobo combo & get the same CPU seporate and the GIGABYTE GA-P55M-UD4 for 140. Total is about 40 bucks more, but if your friend wants a bump in video later on he has to replace the whole card with a more expensive one all together or with the gigabyte he can get another 5770 & crossfire.

Here is my suggestion. The sonata III is a great case and looks good( I have seen it in person), but maybe not as good as the mini p180 but they are about the same size.and it comes with a decent 500w powersupply that will be enough to power this rig.

The sonata is a bit cramped, IMO. Cases are personal preference, though.
