Analysts are stating that by 2011 80 percent of active net users will have a second life.

By the end of 2011, 80 percent of active Internet users (and Fortune 500 enterprises) will have a "second life," but not necessarily in Second Life, according to Gartner, Inc.

In my second life I want to be a serial killer. Can I do that in "Second Life"?

Although any game like this would surely draw fire from every direction it would be interesting to see a virtual world where you are in control of a real life scenario.

I'd totally be into something like that.

How can I have a second life when I don't have a real life to begin with?  :(

This isn't event a legit story. Its just sad hype.:p

I am willing to bet a week's pay right not this doesn't happen, not even by 40%.

Do you/Did you ever play WoW? UO? AC? EQ? MO? MCO? LOTRO? 2ndLife? IMVU? AlphaWorlds? These ALL qualify, and there's hundreds more of these.

I guess it depends on who they classify as being "active internet users." If their classification means "14yr olds who have way to much time on their hands," then yes 80% will have a virtual life. The other 20% will be downloading porn.

I for one have no interest in Wow, second life, or any other game which requires such an immense chunk of my time in order to enjoy it.

Did you know that the average person will eat 1 pound of spiders while sleeping over a lifetime?

Did you know that by 2020, every person in the country will either be in prison, building a prison, or working at a prison?

Did you know that 95% of statistics are made up?

So does this mean that 80% of the populace is single, living with their parents/apartment on their parents house, and shower once a week?

Nope and the vast majority of internet users have not either. 6 million WoW users is a great profit margin but a drop in the bucket on the actual total internet users. Its pure hyperbole to think otherwise. Yes, ventures like this have a huge market. As they become more immersive that market will only get bigger but 2011, please.

None of this is true of me, and I have a 2nd life. I mean, hey, I shower at least twice a week.
Well, I am technically "single" as I am not married, but, since my parents are deceased and I'm 35, it's not likely that I don't have an s.o. and it's even more unlikely that I live with them, especially since my mom is buried in vegas, and my fathers ashes are scattered amongst the waters of new jersey.
:)
Or, some could so I have no life at all.

Um, can I be a bit taller and much better looking in my virtual second life ???

Honestly, I think people are kinda unhappy in general. Maybe they feel their lives are empty or not as exciting as someone else's. It's possible they feel there's something lacking in their life.

I love my Second Life. I double my salary in my first life along with my Second Life. I'm 6'3, always in stilletos and sexy clothes instead of two peice suits all the time (bleh) and built like the brickhouse that the gym is giving me in my first life. Not to mention being a Millionaire in my Second Life. At least I can dream....

There are people on there now that have entire wealthy incomes coming from SL. You setup shops and perform barter with 'linden' which can be translated into any nationailities currency in real money and your only charged paypal fees.

People makes thousands a week in some shops and there is a high demand for programmers to build things to sell in shops. It an actual job opportunity, I think the aesthetics are a bit lacking but the idea is amazing. Realtime server side physics engine.

Seems like the only game that portrays a real life, but at the same time makes it have a lack of suspense.

One of my business partners in SL just quit his job to run his company in SL fulltime. I remember when I met him in February, I was netting about $2k a month in my land company which is pretty close to my current salary on my real job. He went full force with his and nets $13k a month easy on his land company not to mention he is a freelance coder so he makes about $25k a month. If I didn't want to be caught up in the game any more than I am now, I would do that same but I already run 40 hours a week in game. I refuse to quit my job to do it. I just hire other people in game to work for me and I collect.

That wont happen until the Linden becomes an recognized currency and there has already been tons of legislation against that. Now if Linden Labs becomes publicly traded, which I pray never happens, that will cause a ton of problems.
