I have the ocz 800 watt power supply with the 8 pin power cpu connector can I plug the cpu connector to the cpu 4 pin on the motherboard? GIGABYTE GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3?

If I'm not mistaken half of the connector should conform to the motherboard 4 pin configuration. Anyone else feel this way?

the 8 pin is not split, I tried to research and want to make sure it supplies the right wattage to the 4pin on the mb

I think it should be OK using only half (4 pins) 8 pins of your power connector for it is only require by your motherboard.
I am also using only 4 pins for my 8 pins motherboards (using OCZ 600W) without any problem for a year now.

thanks, I was kind of shocked that the z68 was using a 4 pin cpu power connector the last 3-4 computers I have built the last 1 or 2 years have always came with the 8 pin connector on the motherboard including the p67 series 1155

Prob has less power phases or the cpu's require less for overclocking stability.
