Boss wants at least 16TB for new backup space. Backup server is an IBM x3650 with 6x full 3.5 inch drive bays. (2x 73GB 15k SAS and 4x WD RE4 2TB 7.2k SATA). RAID card is a ServeRAID 8k.
Installed EXP3000 with 7x 4TB WD Enterprise SATA drives. However, ServeRAID Manager reports the 4TB drives as Defunct. I do not think I will find a firmware update that will allow the usage of 4TB drives, so I am looking for other RAID cards as a solution.
Now considering buying a ServeRAID M5025 and hoping it works with the drives/enclosure/server. But am worried because the x3650 is shown as not compatible in the M5025 Redbook. x3650 M2 is compatible but would be an added cost that I'd like to avoid not to mention I'd have to build a new backup server. Going to an M2 also means my current 6TB (4x4TB RAID5) array would need to move to the EXP3000.
Sorry for the stream of consciousness. But if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Maybe I should avoid the M5025 and use some other card? The only stipulation is that I need to stick with the EXP3000.
