I'm trying to figure out which would be a better deal. I'm already in queue for the GTS step up through eVGA though I haven't received notification on receiving my invoice yet. I can still cancel. I paid 250 bux for my 7900 GTO through ZZF. If I can get another 7900 GTO and run SLI for 250 bux, should I go SLI or go 8800 GTS? For best performance? Whatcha think?

I'm also trying to figure out which socket 939 processor would be the best upgrade for less than 250 bux?

forget all that and save up for a conroe setup. best upgrade I ever made. I run 1920x1200 w/ great settings on a single 7900gtx and a E6400. I couldn't run near as smooth with my opteron.

well I just spent money on a socket 939 setup that I got pretty cheap...but still cost some money. 50 bux for the proc, 75 for the cpu, 50 bux for the ram...110 bux on a new PSU, 250 for the graphics card, etc...so I don't plan on changing platform any time soon...

Let's stick to the question... :p

GTS...

Will probably use less power, and 2ndly...leaves you room for future SLI!

I was looking at the FX-55 for a decent processor upgrade from the 3500 that I have right now. What do you think? Think it'll be decent for using the 8800GTS's power?

The FX55 is a 2 1/2 year old chip. That will bottleneck the GTX/GTS cards. I dont think there is a chip out now that can feed enough power to these cards.

A single GTS is probably 150% better then two 7900GTO's in SLI.

So I'd go with the GTS.

Go GTS! That way, when news of the refresh hits in a few months, you can grab a 2nd one as retailers try to dump their "older" dx10 cards to make room for the new stuff!

unless you're benching 3D06, that'll be great, esp if you oc!!!

8800GTS all the way!!! just look at the reviews from [H]ardOPC! Awsome! You would get better performance than SLI, without all the hasles of SLI, and newer tech! My vote goes to the 8800GTS.

my best guess is, you'll probably get slightly better performance w/ one 8800 GTS vs 2x 7900 GTO in SLI. in another thread the 8800 GTS outperforms a 7900 GT SLI setup, so i can imagine that a 7900 GTO SLI setup performs slightly lower than ONE 8800 GTS. my vote goes to the 8800 GTS since it's DX10 capable.
