I'd like to upgrade my overclocked 7600GS to a newer gen card and get excellent performance from todays games at higher resolutions and details (recently purchased a widescreen LCD and need to run higher resolutions than 1024xy768)

Realizing that I won't get much for my used 7600GS and that I've a limited budget, what's a good selection?

8600GS
8600GT
8600GTS?

How much of a boost over the 7600GS are the three different cards respectively? I may just limp along until this fall and see if the 8600GTS has dropped enough, but I'm still hankerin for some better res/fps results.

Thanks!

the 8600GT would be faster the GTS even more soo
but if you have money the 8800GTS 320MB is a great deal and MUCH MUCH faster

MUCH better then the 8600s
the 8600s are gimped by a 128bit memory bus

What is your budget? That bit of info could help us to help you.

Perhaps look at a 1950XT or 7900, they might offer more value than the 8600 series.

My budget is about $150-160.

As to older gen, I'm needing DX10 support as well. I'll be moving to Vista Home Premium and don't want to worry about being stuck at DX9.

Thanks!

nothing in that range is going to play DX10 well
even as far as the 8800s got DX10 is a dog just get a X1950Pro

Wait until RV670 hits the market in fall, or nVIDIA's midrange refresh around christmas. No DX10 card is really worth buying except an 8800GTX/Ultra if you really intend to play DX10 games on it. Anyways a single GPU RV670 board should land in between a 8600GTS and an 8800GTS for about $200.
