7200.12 1TB SATA 3.0 ST31000528AS so [H]ot, it's OOS

I should have gotten this instead of my Intel X25-M 80Gb.:D

I have the 500 gig version of this drive and it's pretty quick. ATTO shows 140mb/sec for most of the tests. I can't wait to pick up the 1TB version as well as RAID0 two 500 gigs.

Yeah it says bulk on the label so would assume more than 1 comes with it, for a 10 pack though that's not the greatest price. but not too bad.

$89/drive ain't bad considering the extra performance?

In for 100 only if it wasn't OOS!

:p

So, this proves pricing errors can happen the other way. :D

I think if i had a 100 drives like that i'd be all bent out of shape trying to hook them up, the cost of using them all would suck, but i'm down.

How is $89/TB pricey for performance comparable to a WD 1TB Black? I've got a pair of the 500GB 7200.12 in a RAID0 setup and it rocks. Damn quiet too. A lot quiter than the WD Black drives.

"Pricey" when compared to a $70 1 TB HDD, like the Hitachi currently on sale.

Yeah, after MIR. (No absolute guarantees there...)

If you don't desire performance, there are even cheaper routes to storing 1TB. DVD-R... If you have the time, 3.5" floppies... Where I work's giving them away for free by the thousands, or just trashing 'em...

(and then again, these are Seagates.... They might not perform at all!?)

Anyway, are there any benchmarks on these yet? I don't think I've even see the single-platter 500GB drive benched yet...

Granted there are no guarantees about rebates, but even w/o the $10 MIR, it's still $80, which is cheaper than $88 that you were bragging about. Besides, about rebates, since the deal is through Newegg, they'll most likely support you in a rebate claim if you don't get yours.

Floppy disks ... isn't that what Viagra and Cialis are supposed to fix? :p

Maximum PC did a review on it and gave it a 9. It outperformed most of the other drives in most areas but lost a couple to... I forgot which hard drive.. The Samsung Spinpoint, probably.

I was bragging about the performance...

These are the [H]ard forums, a lot here desire that performance...

Just like Viagra, sometimes you gotta pay for performance...

Dunno, maybe you work for Hitachi?

But I wanted to make sure people understand this is the 500GB/platter model...

Then again, those who didn't know that won't understand what it means when they're told that anyway, apparently...

The Hitachi 1TB has 5 200GB platters vs. the Seagate 1TB 7200.12's 2 500GB platters. Theoretically a vast difference, in terms of heat dissipation and power consumption. I would hope reliability would also improve.... although, I still need some more convincing when it comes to Seagate lately.
