so this is annoying me a lot...
with only my computer monitor, i idle at around 46C, which is ok.

one thing i bought this card for was to export sounds vida hdmi to my receiver.
the sounds works fine, but the receiver is picked up as a 1080p device, so it is acting like a second monitor, causing my idle temps to go up into the 60s

if i disable the "monitor" for my receiver, then my audio goes away as well.
it seems absurd that in order to use hdmi audio on this card that my idle temps must go up over 15C

does anyone know how to pass just sound over the hdmi and no video?
my receiver is a TX-NR808

I think video is a requirement for HDMI.

Yup, the HDMI standard requires a video stream because the audio is embedded in the blanking interval of the video. Also, I believe you need at least 720 for multi-channel audio to be supported.

I take it when you have the HDMI connected to your receiver you still have your monitor connected right? If so, when using multiple display outputs (regardless if you require video or not) the cards will idle higher. A 10-15C degree increase is not uncommon.

What resolution is your monitor?

If your monitor's resolution is 1920x1200 or lower you can purchase an HDMI splitter (Monoprice, etc.) and use the one port. (It may be more difficult to make 16:10 work versus 16:9, but it should still be doable.)
