3DMark Vantage = X12000, P24499.
Unigine Heaven (1920x1200 4xAA +16xAF) = 36.6

GTX480
3DMark Vantage = X9309, P21106.
Unigine Heaven (1920x1200 4xAA + 16AF) = 29.5

GTX580
3DMark Vantage GPU = X12733, P24640.
Unigine Heaven (1920x1200 4xAA +16xAF) = 34.9

6970 & 580 benchmarked in different system, both with incomplete driver.

Most information COMEs from chiphell.com,but unfortunately the website is down at this time.

You can also browse another chinese hardware website expressview.com.

why chinese?
because all these cards are MADE in CHINA,they have the cards.they know all.

Honestly, I can't wait to see what the 6970 can do with a voltage bump and some overclocking. Of course if the GTX580 turns out to be awesome I may go that way.

As the 460 vs 6850 war,GTX580 wins a little in benchmarks, but loses a little in actual game.
The most important thing is that GTX580 will come out first this round.
Source in china says it will have a "hard" release in November.

Not long before we can see it.

No offense nest but did you pull these numbers out of your ass. What link do you have to show some credibility to these numbers, or claims about real world performance advantages for either cards. I'm not the first person to ask for a link either. So again where are you getting these numbers from?

hmm. those scores are better than the 5970. I wonder how that translates into actual gameplay though. I think the numbers came from this. With a combination of other results as well, rendering these "results" invaluable.

I think it'll be close between the 6970 and 5970 in actual games with the 6970 winning in most cases and the 5970 only pulling ahead in games where Crossfire scales extremely well. Both of those scores are from benchmarks, which don't accurately represent how today's games will run. But the 6990 is going to in a world of it's own.

For me it's availability. Will the "so called" GTX 580 even be available by the end of the year?

no 580 links...and that 6970 benchmark is old and fake look at this from over a month ago which originally was said to be the 6870 :p:p

although the 3dmark Vantage one remains in question still.

edit: looking at OP's post is suspect also

I know the factories are in China, but adding this last bit makes it 100% credible /sarcasm.

Maybe it's fake, maybe they took 6970 as 6870 at that time.

Can't believe Techreport fell for this when the original pic (uniengine graph) I posted been posted so many times in the past month...look at last post by poster named Cegras.

Xtremesystems forums figured it out

Maybe it's fake, maybe they took 6970 as 6870 at that time.

But the Chinese in your words know all...right. They didn't even know what the 6870 and 6970 are? That would also mean they had to do some editing.

Links for the GTX580 numbers would be useful...

This ^^^ Oh and thanks for the links on the 6950/6970 stuff. At least you weren't just pulling shit out of nowhere and starting a thread. That is never a good idea a would be considered quite annoying.

Some folks in the know @ Rage are suggesting the 6970 is going to remind us all of when the R300 hit. Gawd, I hope that isn't bullshit.

They're probably referring to this http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/20663-amd-promotes-cayman-as-the-new-r300

My memory is a bit fuzzy but this sounds ripe for a repeat of the r300 vs NV30 failure. Not looking good for G110 since we don't even know if its being released this year. Smart play would be for Nvidia to wait for Cayman release, see how much of a lead it has then go back and tweak the 580 to avoid a repeat.

WTF.

Come on guys. GTX 580? No way. Remember nVidia's naming scheme: GTX 280, 480, 680

the 100 and 300 series were for, what, mobile, oem? supposedly?
Why do we have 2xx, 4xx, and now 5xx instead of 6xx?

My real question- when with 6950/70 be released? I'm ending up with more cash than I expected, so I may be in the market for one of them (or 2x6850) instead of a single 6850...

HD 6800 series are gen 7, HD 6900 series are gen 8. It might have some more Southern Island tweaks:

I think he meant for the GTX 580. Imo if Cayman comes out 30% more than 480 I see GTX 580 not being released until mid Q1. More tweaks = more time but will be worth it to save face for Mr. JHH.

Its not given yet the GTX 580 performance, so Nvidia might surprise us yet. Getting a "GF100 done right" GF 110 512 core with 20% more performance and 20% less power usage would be an accomplishment itself. If Nvidia were to double the TMU's to 128, it might surprise even more. :)

But, I do agree that Nvidia won't put out a GTX 580 unless it beats the 6970 at least with a small margin.

The 5xx series are in the drivers already.

When they use odd numbers on their chips it means same basic architecture + tweaks.

the 7000 series, the 9000, both were based on their previous architecture with small tweaks.

I think he meant it as a joke. :)

100 series was OEM parts (GTS150 was actually the famous 9800). You can find the OEM parts listed even on steam survey. The 300 series was also OEM parts, but with DX 10.1 support. By this, the 500 series should be OEM.

How much more tweaking could they do though?

Exactly, with these long product cycles what ever it's shaping up to be is what it's shaping up to be. The only other option is a chip re-spin which could run six months or more.

Then the next product is being developed though R&D and software modeling to get closer to production.

I don't know...they might put it out only if its 10% behind the 6970 to recoop development costs. Fans of nVidia will buy the nVidia product even if its equally priced and 10% less performance for a multitude of un-reasons: "PhysX! It does 3D better! Drivers for nVidia totally pwn ATI! Once the drivers are optimized, we'll get that 10% back and then 10% more! I always buy nVidia! You got to support a company when its down!"

I think the '580' rumor over a 680 designation holds water because it's not a full generational jump, it's just an improved Fermi. I hesitate to call it a respin, but it's definitely not a full new architecture. In the past Nvidia has reserved the in-between generation for OEM only cards (like the 330M) but this time, I guess they want to refresh the entire lineup (I have a feeling that we will see a 570, 560, etc.)

Regarding people buying the 580 even if it's a little slower at the same price, I think you are not wrong, but chances are that if it's really close, Nvidia will either lower price or raise voltage / clocks. It's been a long time since they've released a completely un-competitive high end card in either pure performance or performance / price. For me, it's going to come down as much to heat / noise / power-draw in dual card mode as anything else. 480 SLI was just silly, and I hope 580 SLI is slightly more reasonable. For that matter I hope AMD is not abandoning their high efficiency stance just to win the crown either. I have a 5870 in one of my desktops and a 5830M in my laptop, and I wouldn't mind swapping the GTX 260 in the other desktop with an Nvidia card if it is less hot and loud than the 480.

Perhaps, but Nvidia traditionally have gone for the performance crown, while AMD (ATI) wen't for the price/performance. They can always charge extra from the fans, but I think they would actually wait a bit if they can have 2 FPS overall more performance. :) Of course, if they can't then they will launch it anyway. I think in any case that Nvidia will wait until 6970 is launched before they set the final core and memory speed on their 580.

Yeah it would be like AMD releasing a 6870 that was slower than a 5870. Or a 6970 that was slower than a 5970. That would be ca-ray-z ;)

Except AMD actually has a faster card to come. Nvidia should rename theirs the GTX 485 if it's just a respin of the GF100

because nvidia's naming scheme is a load of shit.. and the 300 series is mobile/low end rebranded GT 2x0 cards.

it originally was marketed to be new dx10.1 supported cards. but later found it was just rebranded GT 210/20/40 cards. so nvidia went hush hush with the series after that.
