So I've made a deal to get a unlocked BFG 6800 OC. But what I'm really interested in now is what kinda gain I'll get between having it locked and unlocked. This is really pure intersted thing, since I'll be running the card unlocked at all times anyway, I'm just curious to see what kinda gains I'll be getting.

So does any have some numbers or maybe a review site that unlocked their 6800nu and compared to the locked one?

Thanks to everyone for the help.

You'll have 33% more fillrate, important in directx 9 games. It will do a lot more per clock. Basically, if you can get the memory up to 850MHz-900mhz, and the core up to 370 or 380, you'll have a 6800GT with half the memory, but otherwise about the same performance.

My stock 6800NU at 5/12, 325/700 gave me about 9000 in 3dmark03. Unlocking to 6/16 and overclocking to 380/820 gave me about 11k.

Thanks guys. Its a BFG 6800 OC so its already at 350 core, plus the guy selling said it should reach about 380ish core and he's got great heat so I'm trusting him on this. I forget the memory but I believe it was around 800. So I'm looking at getting a card close to a GT at $200. Nice.

Looking for other examples if anyone else has unlocked their 6800nu's please post.

Just posted an article on the very thing you are asking about.
I would consider it myself, but the next video card I'm buying is giong to be 256MB. I just can't justify spending 2/3 the price of a 256MB card to get 1/2 the memory. (6800 128MB @ $200 < X800XL 256MB @ $300)

Understandable, but I got my 6800nu at $135 so its all good. :)

BTW: Thanks a lot for the link.

That's a good deal for a bfg oc. Nice pickup. I'll buy it from you for $145 ;)

Lol.

Its replacing a 9700 Pro in my LAN rig, and I'll be easily doubling my performance and by the looks if this thing overclocks well it be equal to my OC'd X800 XL in my main rig. Either way, I think I'll be very happy with it.

Some guys have all the toys.....my next card will replace a 9500 Pro in my main rig and send the 9500 Pro to the SFF (HTPC/lan rig once it gets the 9500)

I should be able to get up to about 380core and 785 on the memory with this thing while unlocked. How close will this get me to 6800GT speeds? Damn it, I really hope this check gets here soon so I can get this guy paid and have my card here soon!

How'd you get such an AMAZING deal? I was exstatic when I got my 6800 for $200. (although they were $300 back then)

Hehe, just masking it a bit.

$135 plus my old 9700 Pro. Still a great deal though, since I would not be using the 9700 Pro anymore and I'm getting a card that unlocks and overclocks pretty damn good.

As I see it, its only $135 out of my pocket and giving up something I had no more use for.

GT is 350/1000.
