So I imagine some of you have experience overclocking the i5-6600k with budget coolers. I'm just wondering if the numbers in the thread title are about the best I should expect with the Hyper 212 EVO?

Vcore at 1.33volts
Base clock at 3.5GHz
Turbo clock at 4.5GHz
Memory at 3200MHz

Temps average 80c running Prime95 blend with a rare spike to 85c when the workload changes and the fans re-spool. Seems stable so far, I'll test it with a few long gaming sessions over the weekend. I'm sure someone here has/had a similar build and I'm curious what numbers you were able to sustain?

edit: BIOS is set to 1.33v Vcore, HWmonitor shows a 1.34v to 1.36v Vcore.

So I've been attempting to make it to 4.6GHz but it doesn't seem stable with the voltages I'd need to keep heat under control. So I'm going to see how low I can get the Vcore while keeping a stable 3.5GHz

edit: so it looks like I got very close to the best settings initially. Can't hit 4.6GHz at decent temps and can't keep 4.5GHz stable with less than 1.30 Vcore voltage. :hungry:

a delid would do you wonders. Brought my 6700k @ 4.6 down to 55-60c load on air.

Ok, so I delidded my 6600K and applied Conductonaut to the die and relidded. Then I replaced the Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO HSF with a Corsair H60 AIO water cooler, and I used Artic MX-4 for the IHS to cooling plate interface.

RESULTS:

Idle temp dropped by 3°c
Max temp dropped to 60°c from 81°c
Stable clock rose from 4.5GHz to 4.6GHz at the same voltage.
Max clock so far at 4.7GHz with a vcore bump to 1.35v at 65°c

That’s awesome man. I kept mine at the 4.6 but with dramatically reduced temps :)

Very nice.

A good delid is very much worth it. I went with Silcon Lottery about 6 months ago. Cost me like $55 after mailing in the processor and they offer a warranty on your chip not coming back dead. I went from 4.8 gigasquirts with temps spiking into the high 90’s to 5 gigasquirts with temps now maxing in the mid 80’s.

Delidding a 6600K I5 quoted price is 39.99 with no binning. Thats almost as cheap as buying the delidder for 25.00 and you dont have to worry about the screwing up the cpu.
