Just got my 2nd card in a couple hours ago and I have just begun to put them through their paces. So far it's all stock just to see what they're capable of.

My specs are in my sig, in a little bit I will be adding one of my BFG GTX 295s for PhysX to get some real Vantage scores :D

3DMark Vantage -All stock on Performance preset with both 5970s in CrossfireX, but no PhysX card-

Unigine Heaven -All stock, 1920x1200 w/ all settings maxed-

Street Fighter 4 -All stock, 2560x1600 w/ all settings maxed-

DiRT 2 -All Stock, 2560x1600, all settings maxed to Ultra where possible, post processing on medium-

3DMark Vantage -All Stock, Performance preset w/ GTX 295 for PhysX-

Batman: Arkham Asylum -All Stock, All settings including PhysX and SSAA maxed @ 2560x1600-

Street Fighter 4 -4.2ghz cpu, no overclock on GPU, same settings as above-

3DMark Vantage -4.0ghz cpu, 850/1070 on both 5970s stock volts-

Crysis -All Stock-

I thought PhysX was disabled if any ATI cards were in the machine? Or did I miss a way to get around that? And if so, link?

Can you do up a crysis benchmark. Will waiting for my other 5970.I bought a Sapphire vapor x,maybe I will TRIFIRE instead of QUADFIRE,

I might be able to, I've got my machine at a friends currently and I have my Crysis install discs at my place. Worst case I'll do it tomorrow afternoon.

Been working on getting PhysX up and running and I think I just got it to work going back to September's nVidia drivers.

Just got my first run of Vantage done with everything stock and my 295 doing PhysX. Full system specs added here and original post.

Thanks...I'm wondering if my HX1000 could handle 2 5970s

I would think so, I haven't started overclocking anything yet, but running 2 5970s, a GTX 295 and a Core i7 all at the same time and it's not really breaking a sweat that I can tell.

Also, Batman:AA actually seems to gain FPS numbers when I enable SSAA and max everything after PhysX is enabled.

I'm gonna keep an eye on this to see how it goes when you start OCing...nice set up BTW.

Is that dirt 2 with or without the crossfire hotfix?

Without the hotfix, as I understand it that only applied to the 5800 and previous series cards. I guess I should double check that though. With all settings on Ultra it really looked gorgeous and was much more playable than those FPS numbers would tell you, it was incredibly stable and had very little fluctuation.

EDIT: I guess I totally forgot why I held off on the hotfix, I was told it restricted overclocking the GPUs. I'll do a little overclocking with the other benches and then give it a go.

Can you post a picture of your setup?

Here's a crappy iPhone pic of it as I was setting it up.

I will hopefully be able to go run Crysis benches about noon today, but I still have the problem of the ATI hotfix. I tried applying it twice last night and it locked up the machine both times and I had to reboot to Last Known Good Configuration.

Anyone else having trouble with this or know a workaround?

Uninstall everything ATI and reinstall with just the hotfix. They are full drivers and not really a "hotfix" as it were. I had to do this with a previous driver with my 5870 as opposed to installing over. I did not have to do anything fancy with driver cleaner, etc.

Cool, thanks for the info. I guess that will be what I try in the next couple of hours when I get over to my friends' place to resume benching.

If you stress test the cpu and gpus do the lights dim?

good god man, seriously [H]ard....2 x 5970's plus 295gtx just for physx....nasty rig you got there

that thing is probaly capable of more computations then most 3rd world super computers :p.

I'll be interested to see the results. I have a 5870 coming to pair with my 5970 under the thinking that the higher clocks I'll get will outweigh the fourth core. Or, at least be close enough to outweigh the cost difference with 5970s topping $800 on ebay.

In the benchmarks where it is supported well, the Feature Tests on Vantage for instance, it more than doubles the framerates of the single 5970 and it's fantastic to watch. The problem is, in most areas it's not scaling well, although seems to be a bigger jump up than adding a second 295 did for me.

ROFL, I actually was worried last night that the breaker was going to go in the room we were in. Had a couple other PCs and a TV going and I used to blow the breaker in my apartment all the time with this rig.

Yeah, I already bought a GTX 275 to take over PhysX duties, I just hadn't sold my GTX 295s yet so they were the only PhysX capable cards I had :p

seems like you all have a nvidia card for physx..
but have you guys found out a way to use eyefinity and physx togethr?????

i couldn't get it to work..
and i am getting a second hand ageia physx card for the physx part.

as i Want / Need eyefinity.
in te last several days i only play games with eyefinity

i am thinking about that too adding a 5870 instead of adding another 5970

still the same, have to wait until eyefnity works with crossfire

Are you sure that an Aegia card will let you use hardware Physx with ATI GPUs without the same workarounds needed for Nvidia cards?

I thought I read a post on one of these forums that someone tried that, and it is still blocked.

And the internet is always right.

But if you haven't already, you should double check that.

with the mod driver physx works,, it is just i have to have the desktop extent to the nvidia video card which will mess up eyefinity

and now with ageia physx card which is actually not a video card and no video out...

this may works.!!!!
i wil not gave up eyefinity even i may lose speed/ physx...
as it is just so great

Just got done running Crysis benches, if you want a specific run done let me know, i should have this setup still together for tomorrow at least.

I put the summary in the main post but here is the full log.

That seems low for two of them. Maybe 2560 is just too much. A bit dissapointing.

Try 1920x1200 4xaa/16xaf....all enthusiast settings...I'd like to finally see a set up being able to play crysis @ 60fps constant at those settings.

It really really did not like adding the 16x AF at all. Watching the 3 runs it seemed like the 3rd would be a misnomer as it got significantly faster FPS in the beginning but it quickly went back to the stuttering of the previous two runs.

13 FPS at 1920x1200?? that seriously does not sound right for a 5970 crossfirex setup. Driver/settings issues maybe?

With 5970/5870 I get 1671 using the same settings on Unigine Heaven, as compared to 1568 for the two 5970 from the OP. My cards were clocked at 875/1175. As soon as I get fan control on the 5970 and a better way to save memory overvolting on restart, I anticipate topping them at 950/1250.

How are your temps OP? Mine are scorching, but most of that is the 5970 fan running slow.

Yes, what are your GPU temps? Are you running the 5970s at stock or are you overclocking them a bit?

I'm getting temps around 90 to 95 after benching, on the upper card. I think it's due to them being sandwiched together. What are you guys getting on temps?

I am running a pair of Gigabyte HD5970's. Here is stock with the 9.12's.
