5900X $439.99 after promo @ Newegg

Absolutely insane amount of firepower for $440...

For those of you more Amazon inclined; it's $450 there.

I love my 5900x. Wish I had found it for this price. It would have saved me $100!

hhnnggggg Must resist upgrading the box I just built in October
I don't need more than a 5800X I don't need more than a 5800X I don't need more than a 5800X
Lol, exactly same here. Just saw articles about a possible 5700X launching soon too, which would be perfect for me/gaming I think for the foreseeable future.

Waiting to see what the 5800X 3D can do but this is tempting. I'd really prefer a 5900/5950 3D though.

But actually, you really only need a 5600x. What are y’all doing with all them cores?

Cyberpunk 2077 with lots of mods gets CPU-bound sometimes even at 4.8Ghz all-core of my 5800X
That's an outlier right now, but games that can actually scale past 16 threads are just going to become more common

What do you cool it with and what are your temps gents? I had mine under NH-D15 in B550 Vision D board and it was reaching 92C+. Pretty high I would think.

I'm using the same cooler. Mine never goes above 80c (and that is rare....usually around 75c whilst gaming). Depends on your bios config, case airflow and apps. What are you running when it hits 92c? That's not right at all.

Tested it using "stress-ng" on Linux :

See what your temps are under prime95.

The 5800x runs exceedingly hot in my experience. Mine was hitting low 90s under Cinebench at stock with an alpenfohn brocken. I had to both undervolt and install an AIO to get the temps below 80c.

On the bright side, it's a champion undervolter. My runs stable at 2.8v at 4.7ghz.

5800X seems to do really well on AIOs. Got mine on a H115i XT and at 4.82Ghz all-core manual OC at crazy voltage (1394mV) it stays around 60C in Cyberpunk (60% on all 16 threads, ~100W) and 80C under 100% stress (~150W). In lighter games it stays in the 50s. The actual thermal output of Zen3 isn't huge but the thermal density means they need more cooling than one might expect.

The thermal density of the 5800x is its problem: too many cores for too few chiplets. AMD wanted something positioned between 5600x and 5950x, but couldn't add another chiplet and still remain profitable in that price segment.

It's a great CPU, but needs undervolting and a hefty cooling solution for it to excel.
