5900 to 5950 Mod?

$200 bucks? HELL NO. thats too much for that card. i had a BFG fx5900 flashed to fx5950, did the same as an OCed fx5900. just wait a little while until the prices of the x800 and 6800 drop and get one of those. too bad you missed out on the $235 6800 deal a couple of days ago

Naw, not worth it. I've had a 9800, 9800 Pro and 2 5900s (1 flashed to 5950U bios, other just o/c to 5950U speed). You're not going to gain much over your 9800.

had a single slot Leadtek 5900 that bios flashed to 5950 just peachy ..I had a 9800xt as well at the time and it (the 5900 flashed to 5950) didnt come close in performance (to the 9800xt) in the games I played ...

..and compared to a 9800pro dont really know ....I'd keep the pro or sell and go for a X800pro or 6800GT

Sell it and go for a 6800GT. The 6800GT has the full 16 pipelines like the ultra version and it will overclock real well. Not to mention the fact its like 5x faster then the 5950 or 9800XT :).

How many people here have tried this and been successful? Most of the games I play are opengl, and I'm thinking of selling my radeon 9800 for one of these.

Here's the link on the mod:

It's not worth the upgrade from a 9800 np to 5900 flashed to 5950 u bios. Your best bet as suggested here is to go for a 6800 nu for the extra 100 and you'll wind up faster than a 9800 XT.

Yea i agree. You can get a Leadtek or eVGA 6800nu for $299 and it will be twice as fast as a 9800XT along with supporting the new 6800 series technology.
