5090 in stock and it looks like it is staying in stock

You don't need to have the halo. That's like saying you need a $7k projector just to watch "frikkin" movies.
Except, this specific thread is the "halo" thread hence why we are having this conversation about "enthusiasts" paying crazy prices for a 5090 AKA "HALO CARD"? I thought this was H.A.R.D.O.C.P.? What other cards really matter except the high end and "halo" cards?

Actually, luxury cars regularly go well above msrp and have huge wait lists.
That is not correct at all, most luxury cars are sitting on a lot near you. Rare super cars, than maybe they are hard to get. But a luxury vehicle is hardly difficult to get these days. Dealer might even throw in some free oil changes if you buy one now. Maybe a few years ago you might have been correct, but not now. You can't even get free lube from Nvidia, makes it even worse :)

Yes but we have people doomsaying the entire pc gaming industry as if gaming is done for just because there's a high msrp card for sale.
If you don't think the pc gaming gaming industry is in trouble if the current trajectory of gpu prices continues then I don't know what else to say. In your wisdom do you foresee a return to sanity in the future?

It's in trouble because even those of us willing to purchase a higher end, expensive card (at MSRP) can't even get one.

PC gaming is dying for sure!

Specious reasoning. We're talking about mid-higher end GPU availability here, not the number of gamers. What classifies as a "PC gamer" and what kind of games are they playing?

https://tech.yahoo.com/gaming/articles/pc-gamers-spend-92-time-161401732.html

According to this report most PC gamers are splaying older games. So if higher end external GPUs are becoming more expensive and more difficult to purchase it will definitely change the kind of games we get over time- maybe not now but possibly 5-10yrs from now. Why develop bleeding edge games when most people don't have the hardware to play it and are playing older games anyways?

I guess we won't know for a while to see how this all pans out.

The majority of PC gamers are not buying high end GPUs, most buy 60 and 70 class cards not 80 or 90 class, that falls within the enthusiast category. If you want to say that "enthusiast" PC gaming is dying then yeah sure I can agree with that. But saying PC gaming as a WHOLE is dying just because you can't buy the top class GPU for $500 anymore is funny. As for games not being made with bleeding edge tech, how many gamers have the hardware to run CP2077, Alan Wake 2, Indiana Jones with Path Tracing enabled? You would need a 4080, maybe 4070 Ti Super at the minimum to get a good experience with that and yet the developers are still spending effort to put it in games despite the amount of people able to even run such settings being very few.

One of the reason for the gpu price is PC gaming demand because it is particularly high time healthy.

GPU price were not that good in 2020, 2021, yet leaked steam game commissions revenues from a court battle looked like this:

llion-in-revenue-to-valve-in-2021-v0-sm31zsmuoacd1.png

The moment PC gaming get significantly less healthy price will go down, if new GPU price stay high game dev will continue to make game that do not need them like they do right now, it is possible that a $700 APU pc will play everything, even new AAA, well enough.

If you want to say that "enthusiast" PC gaming is dying then yeah sure I can agree with that.

Black myth was one of the hardest PC game to run ever, not even a console port for it (at least not at launch), sold 2 millions copy in 3 days, 25 millions in total as of today, apparently. We need to watch out a bit for not saying some, nobody goes there anymore it is too crowded type of logic. Nobody buy GPUs anymore the line are too long and the price too high because so many people are paying a lot for it because PC gaming is so popular...

Let me clarify.....enthusiasts level pc gaming is dying a very long and painful death!

Either way, I'm not paying >$2k for a 5090, which is overpriced to begin with.

That said, whatever the first card out of the 9070xt, 5070ti or 5090 (would have considered a 5080 24gb) comes up for me at MSRP is I'm going to buy it and move on.

Cheap Newegg bundles staying in stock for 12 hours now. IMO the FOMO wave has ended.. and the tide is about to turn for availability. I hope those 800 or so scalped cards on Ebay rot there.

EDIT: "cheap" as in 5090 only bundled with a $240 motherboard.

Almost 12 hours later and this bundle is still available. Cheapest 5090 I've seen on NewEgg (with scalper bundle) I've seen in a while.

Just can't bring myself to pull the trigger - oh well.

No. No it isn't. And I'm not sure why you guys keep thinking this.

How is that a bonus?
Yeah to throw in a board nobody is probably going to use let alone be able to resell isn't really a "bonus". I mean if you had use for it then that isn't a bad deal. I was really tempted with the Aorus bundle, but I passed just because I wouldn't use the board for anything, and trying to sell that board along with many others in the same boat isn't ideal.

People buying those cards on EBay are morons. You can get cards cheaper in stock on Newegg with full warranty, just have to use or sell a cheap add-on. 846 5090's on Ebay and rising stock and sales slowing. Those scalpers are going to barely break even very soon.

In 1-2 month AIB's will be LOWERING MSRP's as 5090's sit due to very limited audience paying $3K for a GPU in a saturated market.

So you've never seen car enthusiasts, or boat enthusiasts, or plane enthusiasts? In fact there are a ton of other hobbies people enjoy and spend much more money on than PC gaming. To act like PC gaming is somehow more expensive than any other enthusiast hobby is just fucking laughable.
You know what's laughable? A grown man justifying paying thousands of dollars to play video games. At the end of the day this is a hobby for children; not adults! The other acitivties you mention are serious pursuits for grown men with disposable income. Let's be honest here......gaming is a child's activity that we allow ourselves as a "guilty pleasure" that speaks to the inner child in all of us; especially us Gen X'rs who grew up with this stuff. That said, I don't brag to my wife how many thousands of dollars i might spend on a 5090 in order to play the latest batch of pc games. I'd look like an idiot and she'd be right to call me out on it. We gamers come to sites like HARDOCP in order to participate in the herd mentality that makes it easier and more palpable to justify this irrationality.

You know what’s laughable? Crapping on people’s hobbies and age-gating them. Also, I’m sorry your balls are in your wife’s purse.

Well I’m in my early 50’s and still enjoy playing games and it’s nice to afford the more higher end stuff now. As I get older I enjoy the building aspect more so than the actual gaming part but it’s still a fun hobby. Really no reason to try and make someone feel bad about something they enjoy no matter what that hobby is tbh.

I'm not "crapping" or talking down on anything. The truth freakin hurts! As far as my balls are concerned? I'm sure they are much larger than yours and can't fit in my wife's purse as a result.......do you offer big balls carrying services by chance? I'm hiring.....

I addressed his post directly and truthfully. The truth hurts.....period! None of us would brag to any other reasonable, responsible adult about spending thousands of dollars on a gpu hence why we visit sites like HARDOCP in order to normalize and rationalize such irrational behavior. Yes, this is a child's activity that we "grown ups" allow ourselves as a "guilty pleasure" when the kids are asleep or the wives and girlfriends are gone. Why? Because we are still kids at heart and gaming speaks to that child in all of us. I don't trash that at all.

Oh please. Spare us the faux wisdom and self-loathing. You’re trying way too hard to justify your own insecurities by dragging everyone else down with you. If you think gaming is a child’s activity and feel guilty about enjoying it, that’s your problem. Don’t project that nonsense onto others. Grown adults with disposable income can spend their money however they damn well please, whether it’s on gaming, cars, watches, golf, or whatever else. The fact that you need to wrap your hobby in some weird shame blanket says way more about you than anyone else here. Maybe instead of coming to forums to convince yourself that your own interests are irrational, you should work on not being so desperate for validation. Now, if you’re done whining, the adults will get back to enjoying their hobbies without pointless guilt.

I get that you want to voice your opinion and that's fine. The thing that is kind of confusing to me is why would you come on a PC enthusiast forum and expect no kind of harsh response? Maybe you did it intentionally or maybe didn't think it through, but who knows. To say the truth hurts makes absolutely no sense at all given the community here. By the way I talk to my wife about my PC hobby and she listens even though she may not understand it, but she knows it makes me happy. I listen to her about her job and the books she reads just because both make her happy. It's called enjoying life and we all try to do that in our own way whether or not someone agrees with how we/I go about doing that doesn't really mean crap to me.

You are correct. What response can you expect on a forum of people who believe it's perfectly fine to spend thousand of dollars on a single pc component just to play substandard AAA pc games? I should have known better. That said, I'm out of here.....

FRGMSTR or what ever your name is please delete this account. I have no reason to continut to visit here.

I think audiophile would beat this easily...
Can confirm, as a newly budding "audiophile", my last set of speakers cost more then a base 5090 (at msrp). I bought them without a second thought when the deal came up, but I also know they'll be viable for years and years (a decade?) to come.

Idk if you can draw SUCH a direct comparison with a "quickly" depreciating asset like a graphics card VS higher end audio components. Yes, times are wild right now with used 4k series prices, but give it a bit.

I also have 0 plans to offload these speakers when the "new series" comes out, quite unlike a graphics card.

IMO, money better spent on some nice audio equipment. Nothing more.

You totally missed my point. Because we want to and it makes us happy.
Yep! 100% right, and the consumers willingness to pay that price is just fine. You guys do you and buy, and personally, I won't. My 3080 is still trucking along.

I'm not sour; I've paid over 1k for graphics card before. Not looking to do it again personally. I'd much rather have a nice CZ Shadow or Scorpion v3 and a few accessoeies then a 5090.

Neither of us are wrong, both purchases would make us happy.

Those are usually actual things buying bought with some actual scaling per $ going like GPUs (and if they do not break can be good for 15-35 years, etc.... it is not a fast moving tech and it will always be expensive to build high quality speaker), I had more in minds selling people 192 sample per second audio, very fancy cables, pure sin wave, networks equipment.

Definitely frustrating times for the hobby but I'm not sure why that guy blew a gasket, I don't see much elitism going on here. You get the idea you're an "audiophile" and brave HeadFi or AVSForum for that. Lots of good information to be sure but watch for the mines. I wanted to ditch headphones and cables altogether so I sold the HD800s, bought the Dragon soundbar system and was done with it. Perfect for me... blasphemy to the true believers

He blew a gasket most likely, due to the fact that people are paying so much over msrp for the halo card and the cost of the mid tier cards have shot up with them. Not everyone has tons of money they can afford to put into a hobby and they are now being priced out of the market for a new card. I drove a race car for 17 years and that division kept adding new stuff to make the cars just a tiny bit faster but it was raising the cost of those cars so high it started to hurt car counts as people sold out rather than upgrade the cars to stay competitive. So there is a limit before you start just pricing most people out and thus start hurting your own hobby.

I get it. I was sour too especially in regard to "meltgate". I understand why people are pissed, but there's no need to come on a computer hardware forum and call everyone a child. I hope he was just drunk or something and not actually having a mental breakdown over this. It's still not the most expensive hobby in the world by a longshot. Obviously even people on this enthusiast forum are dejected and it makes me sad to see it. My personal honor code wouldn't allow me to pay a scalper, that's where I drew the line. A fortunate email from a retailer I do a lot of business with is the only reason I own a 5090 right now. Otherwise I probably would just stay away from the forum. It used to be fun coming here and "flexing" new kit because most others could share in the excitement. Things just aren't the same anymore and I hope in a year or two we can get back to that.

Jeez. I have to go away for a few weeks and come back to this. Wow. All I know is that I hope some people stay away from other hobbies targeted at adults. There are quite a few people that would borderline murder someone for a bottle of whiskey.
