Hello there,
I've recently bought a PC which has
i5-2400 3.1 GHz
NVidia Quadro 600 1 GB DDR3
4 GB of DDR3 RAM.
Now, I will upgrade my RAM a bit and get to 8 GBs, but I wanted to upgrade my card also.
I saw that GTX 580 kicks ass on todays newest titles so I want to get it. (My GPU bottlenecks my CPU at the moment too).

I saw that GTX 580 requires 600 Wat PSU, but I only have a MS-500 500 Wat PSU.
Will it run?
I didnt have any plans on overclocking it yet, I might overclock the CPU though.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think you can overclock a 2400.

I cannot find a MS-500 PSU. What is the exact model and manufacturer? A link to the actual PSU will be best. A picture might work.

will it run? sure. safely and at its full potential? probably not.

Hmm I can try to snap a photo of it in the morning.
I think its this one, you can't find this PSU on the site.

And yeah Tsumi, I read that a 2400 can be overclocked to 3.4 GHz
Yeah Dan, idk what PSU to get, anything cheap but reliable?
Edit:
The thing is, I found it for cheap ( the card ) its 75 euros, I could buy it and it can run GTA V on high settings but idk about the PSU man, if you got anything else thats like similar quality to 580 please send me a suggestion! :)
Thanks

No name PSU... I would not trust it with any system.

A GTX 680 might be a better bet... a GTX 580 is very old by this point in time, I think 75 euros for a 580 is about normal used price. I don't know about your market though, but I would think you should be able to find a 680 for about the same price.

A GTX 680 is like 125-150 euros here.
By the way, do you think this is true :
3:25 - Billman87: https://seasonic.com/psu-calculator/
3:26 - Billman87: Ivy Bridge I5 + GTX580 + 8GB DDR3 + 7200RPM HDD +80MM Fan = 430 watts *Peek* load
3:27 - Billman87: a 500 is fine, asuming you dont want a pile of HDDS or wind tunnle worth of colling fans.
I am sorry for bothering you, idk if I can trust this dude, he works in like a computer factory or smthn like that.
I would just get a 680 but I can't, so yeah :(

I don't think I would try a GTX 580 with the power supply you listed, the specs don't seem to list a PCIe 6/8 pin connector. It appears to be a generic power supply.

That thing is a fire hazard and no one should buy it. Never trust your system to a generic power supply. I did that once long-ago and it ended up trying to arc-weld the back of my case.

I think you're confusing a R9 580 by AMD with a GTX 580 which is a much-older Nvidia card that competed with AMD's 5870's and 6970's. At this point any GTX 580 is going to be well-used and not very useful for modern titles. You'd be better served by something newer like a 1050ti or 1060, or for when the mining bubble pops either a used R9 480 or R9 580 whenever they're available again.

No, no confusion. OP is buying someone Else's problem, because they don't know any better :D

What hole do you live in where you pay 150 Euro for a GTX 680? This comes new with a warrranty and is faster and uses 1/2 the power!

https://www.amazon.de/Zotac-Geforce...=8-2&keywords=nVidia+GTX+1050+Ti+and+GTX+1050

GTX 1050 = GTX 680 performance

If you need something cheap, I'd search around for a used GTX 750 ti. Those have pretty close performnnance to the GTX 580, while using 1/3 the power.

They go for about $60-70 here in the us:
